Why Self-Published eBooks are Winners

Why Self-Published eBooks are Winners
Judy Cullins c. 2005

Myths abound about print books being the right kind of book and eBooks are on their last leg. These ideas spring from traditional publishing.

Hopeful authors have read it many times--that a true book, one that will bring you reverent kudos, must be in print and must be long. And it must have a top agent and publisher. Maybe true five-ten years ago. Like you, I believed it at first and went down that rocky road to get an agent, then publisher. Way too hard and took way too long.

My first rule. Write a short book first. Notice famous authors such as Ken Blanchard did. Second rule. Write a non-fiction, self-help book first, then a novel. You'll experience more success with a non-fiction. Then, you can use the profits to stay the long haul for your fiction.

Follow my lead. First, I wrote print booklets or journals and sold them at the back of the room in seminars of the same name. This led to thousands of income each month. Then I read self-publishing books such as Dan Poynter's. Right track. But, then I realized one can write a print and an eBook at the same time. And, you can sell either from your own Web site. Or, you can take a 50% or less royalty and sell from someone elses's site.

Remember one great benefit of eBooks. The author gets by with little cost. You can send the books via email if you don't have a Web site yet, and you can offer them as downloads at your site.

One great benefit of short eBooks. Your audience loves them. They don't want to spend a lot of time reading. They want quick solutions in an easy to read format. They don't want long books over 130 pages with too much extraneous information. Give them answers to their questions and you'll have a fan for life.

The sad truth that no emerging authors wants to believe--that they can get the publisher to publicize, promote and market their book. Not true. It's amazing how many bookcoaching clients really want to turn it all over to someone else. The problem is it's way too expensive, and no one knows nor has more passion for a book than the author. It's not money that rules, but a creative approach to sharing your wealth.

Another rule. If you can write a book, you can also write ad copy for the book's introduction, the short "tell and sell," the back cover, or the Web or email sales letter. You just need some coaching from a pro. Start a promotion savings account and spend a little to get the best words that will attract and give your audience enough information to make it easy to buy.

Join a telegroup that writes each week and exchanges files with each other. Of course make sure the bookcoach is savvy and knows how a saleable book is put together, knows short cuts to write fast, and clear, and gives you useful feedback to help your book grow and get born.

What's your intention? To think it takes too much time, too much money and you aren't much of a writer? If you can get by your resistances, you can learn how to write --well. If you put a little daily attention on your book project, you can finish it.

Take some small action today and feel powerful, because authors are a special breed-and the club is awaiting your good news.

Audio Books - 5 Reasons to Love Them

The typical hardcover or paperback book is not going anywhere. The format shows no signs of ever dying off, even after considering the many technological advances made in recent years. It would, however, be foolish to deny the obvious and not so obvious benefits of listening to audio books. Here are some ways audio books could be put to use:

1. Do you like reading poetry? Then experience it in the way it was meant to be experienced: with your ears! Back in the good old days, it was not uncommon for poets to recite their works before a swooning audience. The great Irish poet and playwright, W.B. Yeats, was said to have written poetry in such a manner that, when vocalized, it would have a certain effect on the ears of its hearers. If you like the writings of T.S. Eliot, there is actually available a recording, on compact disc, of Mr. Eliot himself reading his own poetry. It's obviously a fascinating investment for fans of Eliot. It's only one in a series called The Voice of the Poet.

2. Fight road rage while listening to audio books--seriously.
Statistics show that violent crime resulting from what is commonly known as "road rage" has increased tremendously over the past couple of years. If you happen to be one of those individuals with a bit of a mean-streak when behind the wheel, then don't take to the boulevard without Waitley's Optimal Stress Reduction in your passenger seat--or simply check out a few of the innumerable audio book titles available in your local book store in the self-help section.

3. Revisit the "Golden Age of Radio".
It is now possible to find a vast array of classic radio dramas on compact disc. Fans of The Shadow radio program have known this, and are undoubtedly pleased. Also, if you happen to like The Twilight Zone television series, then try to get your hands on a copy of The Twilight Zone Radio Dramas--Lou Diamond Phillips and Adam West are among the talent contributing to these programs..

4. Struggling in child-rearing?
Audio books just might be part of the solution. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is a hit with the kids (just as every other Harry Potter book has been); and an obvious choice might be an audio book from the Lord of the Rings series--these classic Tolkien works are available in abridged and unabridged editions..

5. Learn another language
... in your sleep. When you fall asleep your brain doesn't just turn off. On the contrary, research has shown that the sleeping brain does receive, process and perhaps even store information. So why not use your good nights sleep effectively by listening to one of the many foreign language audio books. And while this technique may not be the only means of mastering a second or third language, it will make things a little bit easier..

If these uses don't seem practical to you, they might put you in the mindset to think of your own ways to utilize audio books. And although some may say that listening to audio books is no substitute for reading, the growing popularity of audio book rental services such as Jiggerbug.com may eradicate paper books completely or at least come close!

Understanding E-books

Understanding E-books

Pros and Cons of E-Books.

An e-book is a digital or electronic copy of a book. Just like e-mail is digital mail.

With the advancement of technology an entire library can be referenced and indexed just at the tip of your fingertips. Millions upon millions of text can be stored in devices that get smaller and smaller every year.

E-books have certainly opened more doors for us to enjoy literature.

Books in digital form can be indexed and searched for a particular text in a flash. With the advancements in technology even e-books captured in image formats can be searched.

E-books take up less space. An entire volume of encyclopedia can be stored in a single compact disk.

Devices for reading e-books make it possible to read even in low light

Texts in e-books can be magnified, changed to a different font or color. This feature will enable handicapped readers an option for possibly reading more books.

They can be converted to audio books using text-to-speech software.

They are versatile and readily portable to different media and platforms.

Distribution and Reproduction can be done instantly and at a low cost.

Errors can be easily rectified just like downloading a patch for software.

Publishing requirements aren't as difficult to produce as requirements for normal books. They can be published by independent publishing entities.

They are relatively cheaper and easier to maintain.

E-books are easily converted to any format desired even to a database.

The potentials of e-books may be limitless but they also have their disadvantages. Some advantages of e-books over standard books can also be a double edged sword.

They cause eyestrain. Extended periods of reading can also cause other health-related problems.

You always need a power source for your device for you to be able to read.

Electronic media wears and tears easier than standard books. A scratched CD might be useless compared to a book with a torn page.

Has no more 'collectors item' value to it. There are no rare e-books.

Certain software requires upgrades and can cause incompatibilities.

Proves too easy to be copied illegally. Copies can just be sent through emails.

Types of E-books.

E-books come in different formats. Each format was designed for a certain purpose. The most common formats used for e-books are as follows:

Plain text, is the most basic format of them all. Plain text can be easily read by almost all computers and related devices.

Image files, these books primarily comprise of snap shots of the pages of a book. Zooming is possible but may compromise the quality of the displayed item.

Rich Text Format (RTF), is a standard file set by Microsoft Corporation. RTF files like HTML (HyperText Markup Language) files; they are text files that have special tags or markups.

Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML), quite similar to an RTF and an HTML, the main difference is that the markups can come from sets that can vary.

eXtensible Markup Language (XML) is derived from (SGML) also a markup language but using a markup set that conforms to the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) standard

TeX is an e-book format that is popular with the academe. It specializes in e-books for math, science and computers. Its best feature is in representing mathematical formula.

PostScript is defined as a page description format. It is used essentially in desktop publishing. PostScript files have the '.ps' extension

Portable Document Format (PDF) is a file format by Adobe Systems. A widely accepted format for its robustness and many features.

eReader is file format normally associated with Palm Digital Media electronic books (Palm Digital Media)
E-books from digital Media are usually encrypted. Readers are required to buy the decryption key, which are usually the credit card number and the buyer's full name.

Publishing e-books are proving to be profitable especially with laws regarding electronic copyrights are becoming stricter. E-books are great sources of reading material some of them you can actually get for free. There are numerous web sites that offer writers a place to showcase their writing. In a way writers gain public exposure and readers get variety. The quality is often good.

No matter how many kinds of e-books out there, no matter how trivial or important the advantages or disadvantages of e-books, E-books are definitely here to stay.

We had thought that producing some matter on book publishers would be an impossibility. However, once we started, there was no turning back.

Today's book publishers Article
5 Advantages of Creating E-books

Here are 5 quick advantages for creating e-books or your information
products and selling them on the Internet.

1. You Become an Instant Expert in Your Field.

Within just a few minutes of exposure on-line, people that have never
heard of you will consider you "the expert" on a particular subject.

Since you can edit and change your information on the fly, the
information you offer can be the most relevant to your industry. This
will propel you ahead of your peers selling print books.

2. No inventory costs.

The moment you create your first e-book, you have "Billions-In
Print." (Hey, that may make a great title for a press release!)

3. No Competition.

Your book may be sold as a single copy or your digital file may fit
in as a premium for your largest competitor. Your competitors become
your business partners, and you both benefit.

4. No Special Software is Needed.

You can fill your e-books with sound, graphics and videos, or your e-
book can be a simple text file, delivered by e-mail.

My most profitable e-book is a text based class on "Stage Hypnotist
Training" which is delivered by autoresponders. (E-mail on demand)

5. Pricing Freedom

You can sell your work at any price. You may begin by pricing a short
e-book at ten dollars and then offering re-print and distribution
rights for a few hundred or even thousands of dollars.

You may also sell reprint and distribution rights to associations.
(This is another way of offering premiums to associations with no
additional cost to you)

Summary:

If you want to become an instant expert in your field, then create
your e-book.

If you want to publish your thoughts with no additional inventory
concerns, then create your e-book.

If you want to sell a simple product that may have no competition and
ask any price you wish, then create an e-book.

Creating your e-book may be just what you want to begin today!

Customer Review: I've had a good experience with Quickbooks Pro for Mac

I realize there are quite a few negative reviews here, but I have had nothing but good result from this program. My wife and I run a consulting firm and the fact that Quickbooks has a consulting firm set-up feature sold me on it. We do not need to track sales or inventory, and Quickbooks was able to make that distinction and set up our business just the way it needed to be. The Business Walkthrough is a great feature and made setting up shop very simple.

I was a little intimidated in the beginning, since I have little accounting experience. But I printed out and read the section on Consulting from the help document and everything became more clear to me. Now that I have a better grasp of the features I am much more comfortable with the program. It reminds me a lot of Quicken I use for personal finance, which helps with the comfort factor.

I downloaded the Trial first, and was able to perform all functions and even set up the company. I wanted to see if it would afford everything I needed, and it did. I would recommend people try it first, to see if it gives you everything you are looking for.

My only complaint is the update pricing, or lack there of. Intuit should offer discounts to it's loyal customers.

I would recommend this program to anyone in the consulting field due to the defined business model it can spit out. I like not having all the extra accounts and expenses I don't need to track.

Customer Review: Intuit makes Microsoft seem user friendly

The only thing worse that Quickbooks for Windows is Quickbooks for Mac. As users of both products, I agree completely with the multiple negative reviews posted earlier. Intuit's refusal to support bugs within their software is unethical. I'd say criminal, but since we all have to agree to a disclaimer that no piece of software comes with any guarantee to do anything, anytime, anywhere, there's no legal recourse.

When are the consumer protection groups going to wake up and go after software companies for their refusal to take responsibility for their products, with Intuit at the head of the line? When are we consumers going to wake up and tell our accountants to take their requirement we use Quickbooks and give us some real alternatives?

I suppose a big part of the problem is that there aren't any decent alternatives. Quickbooks seems to have killed most of them off - but you might take a look at the open source GnuCash program. Perhaps it can morph into a Quickbooks alternative.

One Chance

One Chance
Britain's Got Talent winner Paul Potts has spent most of his life feeling 'insignificant'. Bullied at school for being 'different', he realized growing up that he had one true friend and that was his voice. Singing was his escape. He was able to lose himself in his own little world - the vicious words of his tormentors replaced by hauntingly beautiful lyrics and melodies that lifted his heart and spirit. It was a love, a passion, a lifeline that would follow Paul into adulthood and help him through many more periods of adversity.

Though it's fair to say that when Paul strolled awkwardly - almost apologetically - onto the Cardiff stage for his first Britain's Got Talent audition a week before that final, in his now infamous £35 Tesco suit, and announced to Simon and fellow judges Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan that he was going to sing opera, they never thought for one minute they were looking at their winner. Until he opened his mouth and started to sing.

Customer Review: Paul Potts is beyond a winner

The musical beauty of this CD by Paul Potts will send positive chills down your spine and out through your limbs. His voice is magnetic and moves the soul no matter what language he is singing. A must have for your tenor music collection and a moving story of success behind the music. He is the new "Pavarotti" with even more sentiment in his presentation.

LeapFrog Leapster® Educational Game: Mr. Pencil's Learn to Draw and Write

LeapFrog Leapster® Educational Game: Mr. Pencil's Learn to Draw and Write
Let your imagination run wild with Mr. Pencil's Learn to Draw and Write. This educational game features over 150 step-by-step lessons that show children how to draw favorite animals, objects and characters, as well as upper and lower case letters and numbers. Also includes dozens of art tools, so you can create anything you can imagine.

Teaches drawing, handwriting, color theory and creativity. For use with the Leapster Multimedia Learning System.

Customer Review: Frustrating, but still a valuable tool

I bought this game, despite the negative reviews, because I really wanted a way for my four year old to work on his fine motor without having to argue about "yes, you must TRY to color in the lines" and "son, you need to TRACE the lines, not free color". He is a very independent spirit :-)

The other reviews are true, it is a frustrating game.

The calibration is an issue (this can be remedied. A Mr. Jason Mortara left a comment on another review stating "To access the Calibration Screen, turn on the Leapster and wait for the Sign In Screen to appear. Then press the Home + Hint + B Buttons simultaneously. Use the Pen to touch the five points that appear." and it works). Even after recalibrating the stylus, if you hold the pencil at different angles than when you recalibrated the line appears in different places. For instance, if you hold the pencil straight up and down during the recalibration, but at a slant when you trace, the line is not in the right place.

When my son does the mazes I feel the game is overly sensitive. You are not allowed to pick up your pencil during the maze, you must make one continuous line. Who doesn't stop to get your bearings during a maze? So you have to determine your course before you put your pencil down, and then don't dare get turned around.

He was becoming extremely frustrated, but what amazed me was that he didn't want to take a break, and try another game. Despite the high anxiety, he still wanted to persist until he got it right.

What we ended up doing was taking turns. I would try a maze, and make sure I crashed somewhere close to the end. Then he would try it. This way he got an idea of which way to go, because it isn't fair to expect them to actually do the maze, AND concentrate on not lifting the pencil, their pencil grip, and not going out of the lines. I felt the fine motor was more important than the logic skills of maze solving, for this particular instance.

So, in the end, it IS a FRUSTRATING game, BUT nevertheless does its job. It still teaches the fine motor skills that my son needs to work on. And it is more entertaining (barely) than the usual PAPER tracing pages, mazes, connect the dots, etc.

A more traditional, paper, alternative to this product would be the Kumon Workbooks, excellent products.

Durability: I'm not sure about this game specifically, because we haven't had it long. However, "Number Raiders" accidentally got put throught the WASHER AND DRYER and still works fine!!! Amazing. Tough little cartridges!!!

Customer Review: mostly fun

I brought this game for my 6 year old for Christmas. She enjoys tracing the pictures and playing some of the games. She gets a little frustrated with the maze. You have to go through the maze without touching any of the lines and if you take the pen off you get the buzz sound. So she gets really upset with that. I like the game because it helps to teach kids to write neatly. She is just beginning the game but I think it will help her. She has not played all the parts of it yet. She also loves the part where you just change colors and can write and draw what you want.

Webkinz: Beagle

Webkinz: Beagle
Discover a virtual world with Webkinz pets. Webkinz animals come with a special Internet code so your child can interact with it online. The code lets you enter Webkinz World and bring your pet to life. Pet owners can name it, make it a home and even play games. Beagle measures 10". Not recommended for children under 3.

Minimum supported browsers: Windows - Internet Explorer 6, Netscape 7.2, Firefox 1.0, AOL Explorer 1.5. McIntosh - Safari 1.2.3, Internet Explorer 5.2.3, Fire Fox 1.5, High-speed Internet Required, Monitor Resolution 1024 x 768. Requirements may change; check www.webkinz.com for latest revisions.

Customer Review: There's nothing like watching a 7-year old with a Webkinz

I recently got to spend some time with my 7-year old niece and watched her "wax lyrical" about how much she loves her Webkinz (she has three of them!). She took me over to the computer and showed me how the computer part works with the beagle Webkinz she named "Sam". I watched her zip around the computer playing all sorts of games to "make money" to pay for the food, clothes, and treats for her "pet".

The game teaches kids some of the responsibilities of having a pet (like making sure they get fed, taking them for a walk, spending time playing with them, etc.) while teaching computer skills at the same time. The carnival-like environment where they play games to make money for their pet is fun and provides enough variety to keep them coming back day after day.

I'd highly recommend Webkinz for any child who loves toy animals and wants to gain further experience on the computer.

Customer Review: Webkinz Beagle

I bought this for my daughter when I couldn't find one around our home town. So, I ordered it thru the internet and Amazon. It was one of her favourite gifts! Not only can she cuddle with him, but she goes on the Webkinz website and creates a room for her virtual pet, and plays educational games that will build up W-$ for her to buy things for her pet!! She really enjoys playing on the website and she sleeps with the beagle every night! I even went and bought a chocolate lab webkinz for my son who is 3. He and his sister have a good time playing on the website and carrying their pets wherever they go!

Which of these ebooks tempts you the most?

Let's say you've put together a real kick-ass rock group that makes The Ramones sound like a bunch of choir boys!

You've finished polishing off an album-full of rockin' tunes and you're ready to launch your 3-chord wonders on an unsuspecting world.

The problem is, you're still recording in your mom's garage and the only ones who've ever heard you play are the neighbors -- and they called the cops!

So, you log on the Internet in search of information on how to promote your group. Along the way you find two ebooks for sale that are exactly what you're looking for.

The first one is called "Promoting a rock group on the Internet".

The second one is called "How to make your rock group famous using the Internet".

Now, ask yourself, which of these titles would tempt you the most.

I don't know about you, but to my mind the second title is far more appealing.

The first one promises to tell you how to promote your band, but that's all. It describes what the book does very effectively but it doesn't fire the imagination. It sounds a lot like hard work without convincing you that your band will be famous if you read it.

The second title, however, promises exactly what you want. At the end of the day, you don't want to 'promote' your band, you just want to make your band 'famous'. In other words it promises the BENEFITS that you're looking for.

Both titles could be used on the exact same ebook but the second one will be many times more successful than the first because people don't buy features, they buy benefits. I'll say it again: People don't buy features, they buy benefits!

And that rule doesn't just apply to ebook titles - it applies to every single aspect of your marketing and promotion.

Every time you create a title, write a sales letter, create an advertisement, or build a web page keep that rule in mind: "PEOPLE BUY BENEFITS". It's the single most important thing to know in marketing. Understand this point and you will succeed.

To sum up, always keep in mind that the title of your ebook is vitally important to its success.

An ebook with a title that catches the attention of the potential customer and promises a benefit to that customer, will be infinitely easier to sell than an ebook with a 'descriptive' title.

Your title should do all the following:

- It should attract your potential customer's attention. - It should clearly show what your book is about. - It should arouse your potential customer's interest and/or curiosity.
- It should promise BENEFITS to the potential customer.

Put yourself in the position of the potential customer. Ask yourself what would attract you in a title. Take a look at other titles that cover the same subject area. Which ones are best? Which are the ones you would most like to buy? Which ones promise the biggest benefits? What is it about these titles that make them better than the others?

Do you know someone else who is interested in the same subject? If so, ask yourself which title would interest him/her. Which title would you feel happy and comfortable telling him/her about?

Finally, keep your title as short as possible and use a sub-title to drive home other benefits. For example, "How to make your rock group famous using the Internet" with the sub-title "The secrets to rock promotion that will have the major labels scrambling to sign you up".

Remember, it doesn't matter what the subject, you can create a sellable ebook in just a few hours. Give it a title that promises BENEFITS to the target market and then TARGET that market, and you're guaranteed to succeed.

Across the Universe (Two-Disc Special Edition)

Across the Universe (Two-Disc Special Edition)
Across the Universe, from director Julie Taymor, is a revolutionary rock musical that re-imagines America in the turbulent late-1960s, a time when battle lines were being drawn at home and abroad. When young dockworker Jude (Jim Sturgess) leaves Liverpool to find his estranged father in America, he is swept up by the waves of change that are re-shaping the nation. Jude falls in love with Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood), a rich but sheltered American girl who joins the growing anti-war movement in New York's Greenwich Village. As the body count in Vietnam rises, political tensions at home spiral out of control and the star-crossed lovers find themselves in a psychedelic world gone mad. With a cameo by Bono, Across the Universe is "the kind of movie you watch again, like listening to a favorite album." (Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times)

Customer Review: Not for Beatle fans...

I'm a Huge Beatles Fan and this movie did not made justice for the kind of music they used. The story was so plain, the singing was very teenage girl-like and the videos were so forced into the songs that they did not even made any sense. I believe making a movie with this theme was essential for our times, but this one does not keep up with the weight of working with something that is so important to so many people as Beatles music. If you are a Beatles fan, see it and see for how long you can watch without getting angry.

Customer Review: Don't waste your money

This DVD was a total waste of money. The story was lame and the music an insult to any true Beatle fan

The Secret (Extended Edition)

The Secret (Extended Edition)
Not really a movie or documentary, The Secret is more of a video seminar, a presentation featuring a series of authors, philosophers, doctors, quantum physicists, entrepreneurs, and spiritual practitioners expounding on the powers of The Secret (probably the most well-known of the presenters is Jack Canfield, author of Chicken Soup for the Soul and The Success Principles). What is The Secret, exactly? "That principle can be summed up in three simple words: thoughts become things," proclaims writer Mike Dooley, author of Notes from the Universe. Put it another way, it's The Power of Positive Thinking and how it can be applied to attracting more money, better health, and relationships; in short, happiness. (There is a rundown of topics on the DVD Chapters menu).

Most of the material here is given in a straightforward manner, with the presenters simply talking into the camera to address the audience directly, which is good because it avoids the trap of pretense. On the other hand, the quick edits between presenters (would it hurt to let them say more than one sentence at a time?) don't help because it reduces many of their points to palatable sound bites and aphorisms. To many viewers, this may make the program come across as a series of nice ideas not rooted in reality. Plus it's somewhat spurious to claim that The Secret was well understood and practiced by specific individuals like Plato or Shakespeare (it's well known that some of the historical figures noted didn't exactly live happy or even prosperous lives, despite their achievements). But still, the primary message is one of positivity and hope for everyone. So what to make of it? In the end, programs like this generally find an audience that is open to the message, and many will probably find it to be a source of inspiration. Others will approach it with a good deal of skepticism or dismiss it as another way of marketing happiness the masses. It simply won't resonate with everyone, but if it resonates with you, you're likely to enjoy it and get a lot out of it. Those looking for more on The Secret might want to check out the companion book by Rhonda Byrne. --Daniel Vancini

Customer Review: NEGATIVITY NEVER GOT ANYONE ANYWHERE - Cheesy but WONDERFUL

It can be cheesy - you know the music and the sound bites, but seriously, this is a GREAT DVD to OWN. So some of us may know the secret or think we know it, but it helps to have this DVD on hand to watch to inspire us and remind us of what we have to do, what we are capable of, and how we are the makers of our own destinies. I found it inspiring and although you think things like "Follow Your Bliss" and "You are the designer of your own destiny" may be cheesy or obvious, the messages in THE SECRET are ones that we may think we know, but forget or really don't live by. I watched this online and want to buy the DVD to have on hand to watch at home when I start to get negative and feel defeated. It's funny that this DVD is meant to help people see the positive and forget the negative and these reviewers all focused on the negative. Maybe they should be watching this DVD over and over. Buy it and Watch it over and over!

Customer Review: Life altering

This movie, along with the book will change your outlook on life for the better. Put the ideas and thoughts to practice and the world is your oyster.

Even if you're the happiest person on earth, this will make you happier.

It's quite remarkable.

Every living person, young and old, should see this film and read the book of the same name.

What a wonderful world it would be.

Customer Review: You will look at everything in a whole new way.

Absolutely astonishing. When I purchase something I always look at the negative reviews and ask myself if it seems better than that. This is. This is not blood and gore. It is beauty and grace. You will see some things you have seen before in a whole new way. Don't let the negatives steer you away, even though some animals die in the making of this film. IT IS NATURE.

DO YOU WANT THE WOLF TO STARVE AND D I E!

Customer Review: If you liked "March of the Penguins"...

see what a real cutting-edge nature documentary has to offer. Stunning. Educational. Not to be missed.

Ebooks for Profit and Publicity

How would you like to find a great and easy way to get a lot of free publicity for your online business and also get a second stream of income?

Whether you wish to cost-effectively promote your current business or web site, or you wish to get a new significant income stream, publishing yourself is an excellent idea that deserves your serious consideration. Why? Because book publishing is a $25 billion industry in the U.S. alone, it touches millions of lives, it is very viral, it powers the information economy, it feeds the need to know things (a need that people will always have), and you can get into it right now very easily both for profit and promotional purposes. It is an industry that is growing tremendously as people feel the need to know more and more. The publishing industry is almost five times larger than Hollywoods movie industry. You can get in on it right now, in a few minutes, and start using it to cost-effectively promote your business or have a new income stream.

Anyone can be an author, especially when it comes to nonfiction books and ebooks. Everybody has at least one book in them. You are a unique person, and that makes you posses a unique collection of knowledge, experiences and perspectives that thousands of people out there would wish to hear about. Perhaps you know how to make great candles at home. Or you may know how to market certain products well. Or you may be a great listener. Or you may have some great skills when it comes to looking after pets. Perhaps you know how to save and invest money very well. Or you notice that your friends love to listen to you when you talk sports because of all that you know. These and many other skills are in high demand and desired by certain people all over the world. You do have a book inside you. Everyone does. And with todays electronic publishing and marketing options, you can produce it for almost no money and market it for very little and still profit very well.

Even if you do not wish to make money in publishing, ebooks and books are excellent ways to promote your regular business, especially online businesses. Ebooks especially are fantastic at achieving this. This is because the top three activities performed online are downloading, searching for information and emailing, and ebooks are downloadable information products that can be emailed. They are highly viral, getting passed on from one person to another if they contain useful information. Therefore, whatever business you may be in, by writing a short ebook with useful information related to your industry you establish yourself as a credible authority, get the trust of your customers, get yourself considered as a point of reference, and best of all you get a useful product that you can give away free at no cost to you and have people pass it on to each other thus giving you free promotion. An informative, small ebook can end up being passed on to thousands of potential customers!
at no cost to you. Of course, your free ebooks would have to contain genuinely useful information that is somehow related to your products and services that you do sell. They would also contain references to your products and ordering information. Your ebooks would become your free sales reps, duplicated and passed on from customer to customer even while you sleep.

You can easily learn how to write ebooks by looking at the various web sites such as Dan Poynters Para Publishing web site and many others. (See http://www.imagesofone.com/articles/reviews.asp for over 100 URLs to useful sites regarding all aspects of ebook and book writing and promotion). Writing is easy for non-fiction works. Just write in a natural conversational way. Write the way you talk to people. Next, get it in the right format. If you are going to have it printed, you may wish to consider making it easy for yourself by using the services of iUniverse or Xlibris. These two companies will get your book in print for as little as $99 as a print-on-demand title and get it available on Amazon.com and 200 other online bookshops. Your book will also be available for order from any bookstore in North America. If you are creating an ebook, then the two most popular formats to make it in are Adobe Acrobat PDF and Microsoft Reader. PDF files can be read by over 30 million Acrob!
at users (and new users can download the reader free). Microsoft Reader is also free and, as a bonus, can read the files even on Pocket PC computers. You can find a free PDF writer software package. The Microsoft Reader creator is free.

Writing is just 10% of the job involved. Most of the work, the 90%, comes in when it comes to getting people to know about your ebook. Like any other business, marketing is 90% of the job. Fortunately, it is extremely easy and affordable to market books and ebooks if you know exactly what to do.

Only a small percentage of all books published are sold in book shops! Yes, the vast majority of books and ebooks are sold outside of bookshops! This is probably the most surprising thing to new authors. So where are they sold? Well, they are sold in dozens of places, including:

Online
Book clubs
Corporations
Book clubs
Associations and foundations
Retail outlets
Specialty shops
Direct mail
Catalogs
Libraries
In cross-promotions
In the incentives marketplace
Packaged together with complimentary products
And dozens of other places!

However, getting reviews by the top reviewers and the press is the single most cost effective and powerful way of getting sales for your books and ebooks. First of all, the reviews will get you publicity and drive retail and wholesale sales your way. Also, when you do get the reviews, quote those reviews on your book cover, your web site, your press releases, your sales materials, when you ask for more reviews, and whenever you tell people about your book orally or in print. Reviews greatly increase your book sales by increasing the confidence people have in your book. People are often skeptical and will not trust you straight away until they see that many people already do trust you and your work. Reviews in the press also get you plenty of publicity. And finally, most wholesalers and libraries depend on reviews to figure out what books they shall buy. So use reviews and testimonials extensively!

But dont stop there. There are hundreds of places and ways you can sell your book. For many books, bookstores only account for less than 10% of their sales. Yes, even best-sellers! Publishing a book truly makes you into a marketing expert because you simply have to sell, sell, sell. But worry not, for it is easy. Be willing to learn from people who know how to sell books and you will find it easy. Fortunately, there is plenty of material out there that shows you exactly how to sell books. Get into it! it could be the best thing you have done for yourself recently!

Once

Once
Even those allergic to musicals may be won over by Once, a tender-hearted Irish romance with songs by Czech Republic-born Markéta Irglová and Frames frontman Glen Hansard. (The film's director, John Carney, actually used to play bass in the group.) The trick here is that Irglová and Hansard also play the leads; because their characters are shown busking, writing music, or rehearsing, the songs are smoothly integrated in the film. The overall acoustic mood won't surprise fans of the Frames--some tracks ("Say It to Me," "When Your Mind's Made Up") have even popped up on the band's albums, though the arrangements are more pared-down here, befitting the scruffy, street-musician setting. Being the lesser-known entity, Irglová feels like a revelation; she sounds a bit like a folkie Björk on "If You Want Me," and her song "The Hill" is downright heartbreaking. Irglová and Hansard had already made the 2006 album The Swell Seasontogether, so their collaboration here feels really organic--they sound particularly good together on the title track, for instance. Now that's the kind of magic you want from musicals. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Customer Review: Once

Love it, love it, love it! The movie was great, the cd was great but seeing them live is even better! :)

Customer Review: I only need to say this "once"..........

I genuinely LOVE this soundtrack. Glen Hansard is incredibly talented. His style seems influenced by: (insert any great acoustic artist before him here). The song arrangement is also amazing. And Marketa Irglova's hauntingly soft voice is sweet and pure.

The Weight Loss Cure

The Weight Loss Cure
"Number one New York Times best-selling author, Kevin Trudeau, introduces his new book, The Weightloss Cures They Don't Want You To Know About. This is previously censored material now available to the public. If you are overweight - all of these problems are addressed in the book, and the specific products and ways to cure these diseases are listed. If you want to lose weight easier, and faster than ever before, you need this book. You will learn the secrets of how to lose weight without crazy dieting, without going hungry, without depriving yourself of the food you enjoy, without crazy exercise, without taking pills, and without being tired, rundown and grumpy. You will learn how to keep the weight off for ever. "

Customer Review: Dramatic weight loss

After reading this book three times, I finally decided to give it a try. Well, my weight loss was absolutely fabulous. Everything that Kevin said was in fact true. Yeah, it is a 500 calorie a day diet, but you do not get hungry. What you do feel is that you miss food. But, if you drink the teas recommended, they give you energy, speed up your metabolism and give you a sense of wellness. You can actually taste the medicinal properties in them. What I found interesting is that in those six weeks, I lost about 30lbs. It was very dramatic because all my friends talked about how much of my stomach was gone, but most importantly how healthy that I looked. About the same time, I noticed coworkers loosing weight. And, as Kevin mentioned in the book, they lost structural fat and not excess fat as I did. They did not look well to me. But I looked fabulous. At the end of the six weeks, interestingly enough I had no desire to binge. I did not run for the chocolate. I still eat it, but I truly made a lifestyle change. To date, I have managed to loose 65 lbs. Once you understand WHY you are fat, it is far easier to loose it. Kudos to Kevin.

To get the hCG shots that he recommends, you can find out where to get it on his website. I got mine from a pharmacy in Florida.

Customer Review: Misleading

I ordered this book after seeing the infomercial. It is very misleading, his solution is to use a drug available only overseas. I returned the book within the time period and after calling the 800 for a return code. This took 15 minutes of hold time and I didn't get my money back. Not worth it!

Customer Review: Ordinary Backpack

I purchased this backpack for my high schooler, who always seems to run through backpacks incredibly fast. The review made the product seem superior than other backpacks, and it was more expensive than the ones I usually find at our local mass-merchandise store. The backpack turned out to be nothing more than the ordinary ones we buy.

If your child isn't carrying a heavy load of books on a daily basis, this would have worked; however mine does, and this backpack is no different than the cheaper ones at any store.

Customer Review: Excellent bookbag, great price

Jan sport book bags are always last forever. I have three and I probably could use only one for everything. They are very durable. This particular one, I decided to buy because it has many compartments and is bigger than the average book bag. I love how all of the compartments are, they are perfect or all of me needs. I would recommend this book bag to anyone who is in school. I am in college and it is very useful because i can put many things in this book bag and not have to carry around much else. There are also very wide and comfortable straps.

One Boy's Struggle: A Memoir: Surviving Life with Undiagnosed ADD

Mulan (1998)

Mulan (1998)
Solid entertainment from a new group of Disney animators. The story source is a Chinese fable about a young girl who disguises herself as a man to help her family and her country. When the Huns attack China, a call to arms goes out to every village, and Mulan's father, being the only man in the family, accepts the call. Mulan (voiced by Ming-Na Wen, sung by Lea Salonga) has just made a disastrous appearance at the Matchmaker and decides to challenge society's expectations (being a bride). She steals her father's conscription notice, cuts her hair, and impersonates a man to join the army. She goes to boot camp, learning to fit in with the other soldiers with some help from her sidekick, Mushu, a wise-cracking dragon (voiced by Eddie Murphy). She trains, and soon faces the Huns eye-to-eye to protect her Emperor.

The film is gorgeous to look at, with a superior blend of classic and computer-generated animation. Directors Tony Bancroft and Barry Cook make the best of it: a battle in the snowy mountains is as thrilling as the best Hollywood action films. The menacing Huns are not cute but simple and bad. The wickedness is subtle, not disturbing. The film is not a full-fledged musical, as it has only five songs (the best, "Be a Man," is sung during boot camp). Eddie Murphy is an inspired choice for the comic-relief dragon, but his lines are not as clever as Robin Williams's in Aladdin. These are minor quibbles, though. The story is strong, and Mulan goes right to the top of Disney animated heroines; she has the right stuff. --Doug Thomas

Customer Review: Real classic, Everyone should keep a copy of this

this movie is a cross-cultural classic, the story is great, the songs are wonderful, everyone should have one of this

Customer Review: Good

This product was in the exact condition I was told it would be in, and it arrived in good time. I enjoy buying products from Amazon, becuase I know that the quatily is always above average, and that if there was a problem, Amazon would take action!

Customer Review: Buxton Over The Shoulder Sling Organizer Bag

This purse is very small, notwithstanding its expasion capabilities. I do not see how it can hold all personal items and a bottle of water and umbrella. It is just too small.
