Homeschooling Resources - Using Textbooks And Other Educational Materials

Conventional learning materials such as textbooks are usually easy to find. If you're interested in the type of texts used in the schools, you can check with your local school district or county office of education to see if they have a curriculum library. Sometimes access to such libraries is limited to public school teachers, but often the public is also allowed to peruse school materials there. Media and technology centers, from which laboratory equipment, films, video and audio equipment and tapes, or computer hardware and software can be borrowed. Availability to homeschoolers will depend on state and district regulations.

Your area may also have a used book depository, where textbooks, library books, and equipment no longer used by area schools can be purchased for thrift-store prices or are free for the taking. Old encyclopedias, dictionaries, and other reference books are fairly common but are far outnumbered by the literature: historical novels, literary classics, just plain good reading. Some educational publishers will ask for a school purchase order or for an order on your school letter head. Others are happy to sell textbooks to home-schoolers but draw the line at teachers' guides and answer keys. Some refuse to deal with homeschoolers at all, but a few educational publishers, such as Follett, have set up divisions specifically to serve the homeschool market.

Also worth checking out are local teacher supply stores. Most homeschoolers will not be interested in the endless racks of seasonal bulletin board decorations and "Great Job!" stickers, but many such stores also carry lots of supplementary materials for science, math, and literature. Usually, you'll also find an assortment of paper and other consumables: colored construction paper, newsprint both blank and ruled for various grade levels, poster and finger paints, pens, and pencils. Dozens of catalog businesses are aimed at the home schooling market - with more popping up every day. Some mainly carry books about homeschooling; others carry mainly curricular materials.

Recently, as homeschooling has become more popular and well-known, larger companies have entered the market, some carrying materials previously unavailable directly to homeschoolers and others carrying the more popular products of smaller companies but undercutting their prices. If you tend to enjoy the more obscure resources, you might want to make a point of patronizing the smaller companies, even for those items available elsewhere, just to help keep those interesting but obscure items available.

A relatively new dement in the homeschooling market in recent years are the independent dealers. Dorling Kindersley and Usborne Books are especially active in the homeschooling market, fueled largely by homeschooling parents who sell the books to afford to buy all the volumes they want for themselves.

Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus

Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus
This 2-disc set features 10 all new Hannah Montana songs from the #1-rated Disney Channel series, as well as a 2nd CD including 10 brand-new original songs by Miley Cyrus!

Customer Review: Can't wait until "Miley Cyrus 2" is released

Just started listening to Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus yesterday and if you're thinking about buying this CD, don't wait any longer - it's awesome!

I really loved the first Hannah Montana debut CD and after listening to the new "Hannah 2" songs I actually think the new songs are even better, but I was mainly impressed with the "Miley Cyrus" co-written songs. Still can't believe that someone so young can have so much talent ... as an actress, singer, performer and songwriter.

Customer Review: Daughter's favorite CD

This seems to have two CD's with the normal Hannah Montana sound, as well as a new sound (Miley Cyrus). My daughter loves these CD's and I think I know every song on them. If you like Hannah Montana, you'll love this.

Womens Cowhide Leather MultiPurpose Double Zipper Wallet

Womens Cowhide Leather MultiPurpose Double Zipper Wallet
Ladies wallet double zipper. Size IS 7.5 inch Length and 4.5 inch width. Color Choice: Black, Brown, Tan & Burgundy. Thanks for shopping at Apparel Village.

Customer Review: Good Wallet!

Very good wallet made better by the great price! This one is a replacement for a similar style wallet in vinyl that I've had for 10 years. The zipper on this new wallet is much sturdier than the old one and so are the zipper pulls! The "offensive odor" mentioned by a previous reviewer is a leather smell which some people find quite pleasant (can't please all of the people all of the time?). I expect this wallet to last at least as long or longer than my old vinyl one. My only complaint (?) is that once I had everything in the wallet the detachable check book didn't fit as well...which for me is no big deal because I generally don't carry my checkbook with me...it could be a problem for someone who does. Otherwise, a very good buy!!

Customer Review: Idea great. Quality poor

I liked the concept of this wallet. Plenty of storage and organizational features. I returned it because a part of the inside was not quality made. The area had ripped away from where it was supposed to be. The company was great in a prompt refund. It may be that the wallet I purchased was just defective, and had I exchanged it for another, it might have been fine. I instead opted for a refund.

Customer Review: great product-- looks good, does its job

my white macbook picked up scratches in its first two days with me, even with tender treatment and without leaving the house. a cover like this one is a must. my speck cover snapped on easily and doesn't impede the computer's function in any way. fortunately i haven't dropped it (yet) so i can't speak to impact protection, but i have read several other reviews that said the speck cover protected a hard fall onto asphalt and similar surfaces.

and the orange looks fabulous. it gets lots of comments.

Customer Review: mac skin

Subaru Legacy, 1990-1999: Includes Legacy Outback and Legacy Brighton (Haynes Manuals)

Subaru Legacy, 1990-1999: Includes Legacy Outback and Legacy Brighton (Haynes Manuals)
All Subaru Legacy models, including Legacy Outback and Legacy Brighton (90 - 98) Haynes offers the best coverage for cars, trucks, vans and SUVs in the market today. Each manual is written and photographed from "hands-on" experience gained by a complete teardown and rebuild of the vehicle. The first Haynes manual was written this way 40 years ago, and all the manuals continue to be produced this way, making Haynes the world leader in automotive repair information.

Customer Review: Beginner handbook

I have not done as much work as I might have liked, so I have opened the book relatively little. In what little I have used it, it has been more reassuring than helpful--for instance, the book confirmed that the rear hatch lifter supports come without the entire ball-joint assembly, and that there is little one can do about this. Not really helpful, but reassuring for someone who wonders what is going on.

I consider the book satisfactory for its purposes, and I am glad I own it.

Customer Review: Haynes manuals explain best!

In my opinion, short of an actual manufacturer's shop manual, you can't beat a Haynes book for completeness. And, given that they are written for the non-professional, in some ways they are far superior. Based on complete engine tear-down and rebuild, and covering standard repairs and maintainence, I never buy anything else.

If you are even reasonably handy, like to save money on basic (or even complex) repairs, this is the book for you.

Customer Review: Works well for my Mac!

My main concern was this was going to be a PC centric bag with no thought for the Mac. Well, it fits my Macbook Pro just perfectly and safely. I can store all the extras in the outside pocket and have plenty of room for incidentals, as well as have the other side for paperwork I don't want to be turned into premature recyclable pulp. My only wish was they had a genuine Brown, non-dyed version. I could find no other manufacturer making a nicer model in natural color so this seemed to be the best bet. I've had it for a while now and it's been working out just fine.

Customer Review: great case

I received the notebook case in just a few days from my order and was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the case. The service was excellent and I would by from this vendor again.

What Works for Booksellers Works for Buyers Too!

Several years ago the Internet opened up for book sales in a big way with the launch of Amazon.com. About the same time, Abebooks.com started a marketplace for the sellers of used books to make their
inventories available worldwide. Since then, an abundance of marketplaces have sprung up and there is no sign of the industry settling any time soon.

As a buyer of new and/or used books, you have many options available to you that didn't exist until recently. Historically, if you wanted a book you had to go to your local bookstore and college students had to buy all of their textbooks from their university bookstore. If your local bookstore did not have the book you wanted your only option was to order it and wait several months for it to arrive, and college students were at a real disadvantage if their university bookstore ran out of stock. Now, in most cases, the solution is as close as the nearest computer, and the book can usually be had within a few days, but for the uninformed Internet buyer, they will still be paying a premium price because they will only be looking for their book at the most popular marketplaces and passing up other marketplaces.

How do I know this? Because I have been an online bookseller for the past five years and have spent a lot of time researching the various marketplaces and the price variations among them. Since I am also an engineer and have a son working on his engineering doctorate right now, I am also keenly aware of the cost of college textbooks, particularly in the sciences. In fact, I coach online booksellers to be successful in their businesses, so I have to stay on top of the marketplace changes to know how to best react from a business standpoint.

Still, I have been surprised by the relatively small number of book buyers taking an interest in the seller end of the business. In almost every other consumer related business that I have ever been involved in, there were always consumers that wanted to completely understand how the sellers performed their business so that as consumers they would be able to buy at lower costs. This particularly baffles me where college students are concerned because they are the consumers of some of the most expensive books in the marketplaces, and it baffles me from two angles. First, it would seem that with relatively low wage incomes they would be interested in saving as much as possible on their textbook purchases, and secondly, most college students sell their unwanted textbooks at the end of the course and I would think they would want to get the most they could for them. Peripherally, I have to wonder why more college students are not more interested in making an income as online booksellers because they are already in one of the best positions for finding good books to sell. The only thing that allows me to rationalize them not getting into online bookselling is that they are
still students for a reason or they prefer flipping burgers for minimum wage.

Regardless, I really want to emphasize that if you are a consumer of books and find yourself buying the latest and greatest novel from your local chain bookstore, you really should investigate online bookselling from a seller's standpoint. If you understand how sellers operate online, you can save yourself hundreds of dollars every year. If you are a college student, you should be even more interested because the potential savings for you could be thousands of dollars every year and you just might be able to sell your unwanted textbooks for a profit when you finish with them.

The things an online bookseller knows about the marketplaces can be used by an online buyer as well, but only the ambitious are going to take the steps to optimize the scenario for themselves.

Michael E. Mould is the author of "Online Bookselling: A Practical Guide with Detailed Explanations and Insightful Tips," [Paperback ISBN 1427600708, CD-ROM ISBN 1599714876] and developer of "Bookkeeping for Booksellers," [CD ISBN 1427600694] a 19 sheet linked and tabbed Excel Workbook designed to assist online booksellers with the calculation of their in-state retail sales tax obligations and the preparation of their Schedule C tax forms. "Bookkeeping for Booksellers" also provides 55 integrated graphs to visually show an online bookseller just how their business is performing.

40 Years of the X-Men

40 Years of the X-Men
With 40 Years Of X-Men DVD, you've got a full collection of every X-Men story published in the last four decades. Almost 500 issues of the classic X-Men comics are reproduced here, from the very first issue in 1963 to August 2005 -- all in full color, from cover to cover. Explore a world where a small group of people are born with genes that give them super-powers. These "mutants" are hated and feared by humanity at large, and the X-Men come together to protect both mutants and human from prejudice and evil mutants alike. You'll get to follow their incredible adventures as they span four amazing decades.

Customer Review: A perfect gift for the comic book fan who has almost everything

My husband loved this as a gift. He is a long-time comic book fan and this gave him an opportunity to read some of the very first editions that are way before his time. They look amazing on the computer, plus you can print if you want. (with 15,000+ pages I can't imagine why you'd want to) I was concerned about Mac compatibility, but since the thing is just a PDF interface, you just need Acrobat, no special Windows-only software. We're looking to pick up the Spiderman collection next.

Customer Review: Nice read

It is just as it says. A pdf scan of all comics. It's really neat to read some of these again. Great value and good entertainment.

The Thorn Birds - The Complete Miniseries

The Thorn Birds - The Complete Miniseries
The second most-watched miniseries (after Roots) of all time, The Thorn Birds was originally broadcast in 1983 and captivated viewers with its story of a lifelong conflict between the spirit and the flesh. Adapted from the bestselling novel by Colleen McCullough, the production stars Richard Chamberlain as a Catholic priest named Ralph de Bricassart, whose life in Australia between 1920 and 1962 is one long torment as he pines for his lover, Meggie Carson (Rachel Ward), while seeking advancement in his clergyman career. The passion and the guilt make for compelling drama, but a stellar cast of supporting players adds muscle to the proceedings: Barbara Stanwyck (who won an Emmy for her work as Meggie's tough grandmother), Jean Simmons, Richard Kiley, Christopher Plummer, Bryan Brown, and Mare Winningham. Chamberlain, who was something of the king of the miniseries form at the time, is very good in the lead, as is the often-underrated Ward. Their affair is indeed irresistible to watch, which proves to be true, too, of the story's thick weave of church politics, forbidden desire, social change over decades, and family secrets. --Tom Keogh

Customer Review: Thornbirds Fan must have

Fond memories of my childhood were watching the miniseries Thornbirds with my mom. Now I can share the experience with my own daughters. The VHS movies were a real treat when I didn't have a DVD player. Now I'd rather get the DVD version, but I'll keep my VHS tapes as long as the player works. Good quality recordings. Nice easy to identify packaging for my library.

Customer Review: Stupendous!!!

This miniseries is by far the best movie I have ever seen--and I've seen thousands! The acting, writing, directing, music, and design are all perfect. It touched me so deeply--because I could relate to many aspects of the story--that I thought about it for days. It never lost its believability and drew me deeper and deeper into its vortex of romantic suspense. Megee's self-sacrifice--placing Ralph's career above her own needs and desires--was so admirable. And her unfliching faithfulness to him despite her lonliness, if not emptiness, was even more divine than the faithfulness Ralph professed to God. She becomes a true heroine but in a different way, an inner way, than we usually think of heroines.

A truly great, memorable, monumental achievement--one that many persons on many levels can and will appreciate for many years to come. I will never sell my copy--so much pleasure has it given me!--and I will probably watch it at least once a year. If you haven't yet seen it, please do--and discover an experience unlike any you have ever had in movie-going!

And Oh yes, make sure you've got a good supply of tissues, instead of popcorn, at your side--you'll really need them! As I end this, I can still hear that haunting, lilting, heart-wrenching musical theme weaving in and out of my mind, and Megee's last speech to Father Ralph--a secret she hid for so long to protect him from leaving the calling he loved so well.

Photo Scrapbooks

Imagine life before photo albums ? when you had to rely on your memory alone just to tell you what a relative looked like. Since the beginning of photography, people have kept photo albums, and for many they became cherished objects.

If you look at an old photo album, you?ll find that it?s a very well-made book. They often have leather covers, engraved titles, and all the photos within have been very carefully placed ? even if the photos themselves are in black and white and hard to make out. There?s something about the amount of care that people put into their photo albums that has encouraged people to keep the craft alive, even in this age when your computer can keep your photo album for you if you want.

While plenty of people still put their photos in a real photo album ? that is, a book with plastic sleeves inside that you can put photos into ? there are also a growing number of people who prefer to do it in the form of a scrapbook. Scrapbooks are more freeform photo albums, where you can stick the photos in at whatever angle you feel like, write captions for them, and maybe stick in other things too, like newspaper articles about family members, or leaves, or basically whatever you feel like. A good scrapbook can become a living family history, made out of anything and everything that can be stuck down into a book.

Scrapbooking has become very popular lately, and you can subscribe to scrapbooking clubs that send you things to use for it ? different coloured paper, glittery things, stickers, pens and so on. It makes your photo album so much more personal. You can even use a scrapbook as a gift, for a family member who lives far away, for example, or you could even scan it on and put it online.

Duma Key: A Novel

Duma Key: A Novel
No more than a dark pencil line on a blank page. A horizon line, maybe. But also a slot for blackness to pour through...

A terrible construction site accident takes Edgar Freemantle's right arm and scrambles his memory and his mind, leaving him with little but rage as he begins the ordeal of rehabilitation. A marriage that produced two lovely daughters suddenly ends, and Edgar begins to wish he hadn't survived the injuries that could have killed him. He wants out. His psychologist, Dr. Kamen, suggests a "geographic cure," a new life distant from the Twin Cities and the building business Edgar grew from scratch. And Kamen suggests something else.

"Edgar, does anything make you happy?"

"I used to sketch."

"Take it up again. You need hedges...

hedges against the night."

Edgar leaves Minnesota for a rented house on Duma Key, a stunningly beautiful, eerily undeveloped splinter of the Florida coast. The sun setting into the Gulf of Mexico and the tidal rattling of shells on the beach call out to him, and Edgar draws. A visit from Ilse, the daughter he dotes on, starts his movement out of solitude. He meets a kindred spirit in Wireman, a man reluctant to reveal his own wounds, and then Elizabeth Eastlake, a sick old woman whose roots are tangled deep in Duma Key. Now Edgar paints, sometimes feverishly, his exploding talent both a wonder and a weapon. Many of his paintings have a power that cannot be controlled. When Elizabeth's past unfolds and the ghosts of her childhood begin to appear, the damage of which they are capable is truly devastating.

The tenacity of love, the perils of creativity, the mysteries of memory and the nature of the supernatural -- Stephen King gives us a novel as fascinating as it is gripping and terrifying.

Customer Review: Seventy Percent Great King

I'm more than a little in awe of Stephen King. The man manages to churn out a new novel almost once a year, that is usually heads and tails above his literary contemporaries, with fresh horrors to scare the pants off you. I thought most of 'Duma Key' was one of his best in recent years. What makes King so good, so relevant, is his amazing grasp on what's contemporary, what's new, what people are talking about. Armed with this information his characters and their world become your world with references to current pop culture, music, and in the case of Duma, art.

Edgar Freemantle arrives at the fictionalized Florida key of Duma after a horrible job accident that has left him without an arm, a disolved marriage, and very little will to live. Soon though, he rediscovers a passion for art, that awakens not only a hidden talent, but an evil as powerful as his drawings are brilliant. The relationship between Edgar and the caretaker Wireman is one of the best buddy duos that King has written, and they are what propel much of the first half of the book. When the supernatural really kicks into high gear, the book enters King's 'Wizard of Oz' stage, where the scrappy protagonists go to bring back the broom of the Wicked Witch, so to speak. The book sags a bit here, and I felt like it was less scary and suspenseful and frankly a bit silly and Scooby Doo. It's not the King I'd recommend to a first timer, but it's still plenty entertaining for those who are fans.

Customer Review: Fantastic!

This is Stephen King at his best! Please do yourself a favor and read this book. I am positive that you will going to LOVE Duma key.

Chevrolet Corvette 1984 thru 1996 (Haynes Repair Manual)

Chevrolet Corvette 1984 thru 1996 (Haynes Repair Manual)
Want to know if you can tackle the work on your C4? This manual covers diagnostics and repair to help you decide. Easy to follow photos, wiring diagrams and comprehensive troubleshooting sections.

Customer Review: Great for small stuff, Bad for real jobs.

If you want to change the oil, bulbs, plugs it's OK. If you want to change the valve cover on a 1986 forget it. Your better off to find your own way around the EGR on the passenger's side. Chilton is still king.

Customer Review: 1968-1982 Repair if you can read manual

Haynes as usual tends to explain in writing but only shows in picture a few of the late model year designs. I have a 1968 vette and their book did not have a single pic to help explain the tear down or rebuild process of anything. If you can read a page and with no pictures perform the task then you might get some use out of this book. If your smart you'll buy a Chiltons.

A stylish wheeled backpack for school or travel

Customer Review: EXCEPTONAL

I found this product to be exceptionally useful. The whole purpose of the purchase was because my 7yr old daughter carries a lot of books to school. Without a trolley bag, that is not only spacious but manageable, she would have encountered severe back problems in years to come. I thank god that I took the time to research this product in its entirety before I actually purchased. I even ordered another just about 2mths after my initial purchase for her classmate. This product is by no means second to none.

Customer Review: Overpriced, Poor Quality

I bought this backpack for my 10 year son and gave it to him at Christmas 2007 - He used it from January until February 22, 2008 - The bottom has been completely shredded. He told me that it kept tipping over and he had to drag it. He could not pull it on the wheels. It is a waste of money. This product is not made to be used by children who have to haul alot of books home on a daily basis. Do not waste your money on this one!

The Sound of Music (Two-Disc 40th Anniversary Special Edition)

The Sound of Music (Two-Disc 40th Anniversary Special Edition)
When Julie Andrews sang "The hills are alive with the sound of music" from an Austrian mountaintop in 1965, the most beloved movie musical was born. To be sure, the adaptation of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II's Broadway hit has never been as universally acclaimed as, say, Singin' in the Rain. Critics argue that the songs are saccharine (even the songwriters regretted the line "To sing through the night like a lark who is learning to pray") and that the characters and plot lack the complexity that could make them more interesting. It's not hard to know whom to root for when your choice is between cute kids and Nazis.

Read our interview with
Charmian Carr, who played
Liesl von Trapp in The
Sound of Music
.
It doesn't matter. Audiences fell in love with the struggling novice Maria (Andrews), the dashing Captain von Trapp (Christopher Plummer), and, yes, the cute kids, all based on a real-life World War II Austrian family. Such songs as "My Favorite Things," "Do Re Mi," "Climb Every Mountain," and the title tune became part of the 20th century Zeitgeist. In addition, The Sound of Music officially became a cult hit when audiences in London began giving it the Rocky Horror Picture Show treatment, attending showings dressed as their favorite characters and delivering choreographed comments and gestures along with the movie. So why resist, especially when the 40th Anniversary Edition is the best DVD yet.

The DVDs
As if the direct involvement of Julie Andrews weren't enough, the 40th Anniversary Edition of The Sound of Music is a must-have for fans because of the fond sense of nostalgia that will touch all but the worst cynic's heart. Andrews introduces both discs and contributes a commentary track on the film. It's a joy to hear her speak about the film (for example, she explains how she solved her dislike for the lyrics of "I Have Confidence"), and also heard are remarks by Christopher Plummer (who at one point refers to his being 48, which if true would mean his comments were made in about 1975), Charmian Carr (Liesl), choreographer Dee Dee Wood, and Johannes Von Trapp (the real-life Maria Von Trapp's youngest son, who admits that his father did have a whistle but claims that he was not as stern as portrayed in the film). Even with all those people involved, there are still significant gaps of silence, however. Retained from the previous two-disc editions is the commentary track by director Robert Wise, which during the musical numbers becomes an isolated score with no vocals. Also new are sing-along subtitles in English, Spanish, and French, which allow you to have your own sing-along at home. In addition, the film's remastering shows off a truer and much warmer sense of color.

On the second disc, Andrews participates in a new 63-minute documentary "My Favorite Things: Julie Andrews Remembers." But it's really a general making-of documentary with contributions from a number of principals, including director Robert Wise, who died in mid-2005 (not surprisingly, some stories are repeated from the commentary track and from the 87-minute documentary on the previous DVD). Andrews also shares a warm 19-minute sit-down with Christopher Plummer. Carr, who over the years has become the film's biggest advocate, narrates a new 22-minute documentary, "On Location with The Sound of Music," in which she revisits the places in Salzburg where the movie was filmed, and even joins one of the "Sound of Music tours" that have become a booming industry. And acknowledging another big industry, there's a 12-minute featurette on the sing-along phenomenon, focusing specifically on the audience, costumed and otherwise, that attended a sold-out Hollywood Bowl sing-along in 2005. Making special appearances at the event are four von Trapp great-grandchildren and all seven of the actors who played the children. Thankfully, those actors also appear in a 33-minute documentary "From Liesl to Gretl: A 40th Anniversary Reunion," in which they explain what they do now (many are still in show business) and share stories about the film, who was afraid of Christopher Plummer, and what they feel is their responsibility to the film's passionate fans. What's touching is how the group still considers themselves a family so many years later. Other material includes an A&E documentary on the von Trapps, Mia Farrow's screen test for the Liesl role, and a restoration comparison.

What's Missing?
If you already own the previous two-disc editions, you'll want this 40th Anniversary Edition as well, but you might not want to toss those versions. Probably the most significant omission from this edition is the original 14-minute documentary Charmian Carr made in 1967, "Salzburg Sight and Sound." Carr's new documentary includes only a couple clips from the vintage piece. It's not a great work of art, but it's a notable loss and would have made a good contrast with the new documentary. In addition, the new making-of documentary is about 24 minutes shorter than the old one. Also missing are the audio-only features--the interviews, the radio programs, the Ernest Lehman spotlight--and the historical still gallery examining the history of Salzburg and the film. Granted, this material probably got the least play of any of the old features, but completists might want to hold onto their old discs for it. It would have also been nice to have screen tests other than Farrow's. Tests for all the children and for Christopher Plummer (including singing in his own voice before he was dubbed for the film) were included on Hollywood Screen Tests and Rodgers and Hammerstein: The Sound of Movies. Again, they're not critical but it would have been nice to have them all in one place. So maybe the 40th Anniversary Edition isn't the complete package on The Sound of Music, but it's the most satisfying edition yet, with enough new material to please even the veteran SoM DVD watcher. --David Horiuchi

Customer Review: DVD-Sound of Music

This movie is my Mother's favorite musical. She loves her dress she wears when she sings on the mountain top. It's a true story.

Customer Review: The Sound of Music (Two-Disc 40th Anniversary Special Edition)

I saw this movie at a theater in Chicago when my husband of 39 years and I were dating. My grandchildren now know and love this movie from watching it on TV. When they learned the music to the movie I decided they should have it to watch whenever they wanted. Good movie, good story, clean!!!!

Customer Review: this is a messenger bag, not a backpack

Not a backpack means it was not the right thing for my six year old who had to soil it before I could wrest it away from her. Its not a bad product and price is good but mislabled by Amazon.

Customer Review: So cute and functional

I ordered this as a school bag since I am going back to college this fall. I was looking for something that was stylish and grown up, but that would also be large enough to carry books, clothes, shoes, ect. This fits the bill.

I am only giving it 4 stars because I would have loved to have some pockets inside the large pocket- it would really be a 4.5 but amazon doesn't have that option.

Customer Review: Nice and efficient solution

I purchased this one from Amazon a month ago and so far I can only give good recommendations for this product.

First of all, size. It is just a bit more than two regular HDD put together, not huge at all, looks nice on your shelf or desk.

Another surprise was a level of noise - it's virtually silent. When you power it on, it makes audible noise for about 5 seconds and then it goes silent. Terrific, I love it. It's much less noisy even compared to fanless external hard drive enclosures.

Installation didn't take much time or effort. I plugged it to FireWire port and it went right up in my XP system. It took a bit longer on a Vista laptop, but mostly because of Vista, it was looking for drivers et cetera for probably half a minute but then it was alright. It acts like a normal harddrive in your system. Works nice and fast just like it should.

Keep in mind that when you use MyBook for the first time, you might need to initialize it (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Hard Disk Management in XP, similar in Vista), otherwise it will not appear on list of your harddrives. But that's only for the first time.

Being formatted to NTFS, this harddrive showed me 1.81 TB of free space.

I got it because I need a huge HDD to store all my photo and camcorder backups handy. Currently I've got them on DVDRs and I tell you -- copying your stuff from DVDR to this drive is the most time consuming thing.

Absolutely recommended.

Customer Review: Poor assembly and lousy warranty policy

Very quiet hard drive if it was not for vibration noises generated by the poor assembly of the housing. Western Digital only offered replacement with a refurbished (or re-certified how they call it) unit, leaving the costs for shipping back the defective unit with the end user. Moreover, Western Digital also claims that it is the responsibility of the reseller to replace the unit within the first 30 days after purchase anyway. Beach Camera, my reseller here on Amazon, however, did not respond to my request for a replacement so far...

Customer Review: Please make it PG-13

This is definitely Scary. For young children this movie is way too scary and my kids don't freak to easily.

I can see how others like it. But becareful how you intriduce it to your child.

Customer Review: Bad movie for young kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mr. Timothy Lee-you should be ashamed to let your 4 year old watch this movie over and over. This movie crosses many lines of cartoon and horror flick. Compared to the other Scooby movies, this is more graphic and not quite so much fun. It is fine for teens and up, but get real. This shouldn't be a movie called a 'family' movie, and you should be doing the responsible thing and knowing what is OK and what isn't for young children to watch. Your 4 year old relies on you to be his parent-so be one!

Try Fundraising Cookbooks To Raise Money For Your Nonprofit Organization or Charity

Community cookbooks have been used as fundraisers for decades, and they are still as popular as ever. In fact, they are increasing in popularity due to the many cookbook publishing companies that now handle the entire process online.

Fundraising cookbooks can be produced by almost by almost any size group, club, team, or nonprofit organization. Churches are well-known for producing fundraising cookbooks. Women's groups and Junior Leagues also traditionally produce cookbooks.

Selling cookbooks is not difficult and can be used as a long-term fundraiser. The great thing about cookbooks is that they have no shelf-life and can be sold over a period of several years.

Cookbooks can be sold year-round and sell especially well during the holiday season. Keep a supply for sale in the principal's office at school, at your church or organization's headquarters. Fundraising cookbooks are not generally sold door-to-door, although you could try that. Ask local businesses, such as bakeries, video stores, and coffee shops to display and sell your cookbooks for you.

Any time your organization has an event or meeting you can display some cookbooks. If you have a bake sale, take some cookbooks along. Bake some items using a recipe from the cookbook to help your sales. Give cookbooks away as a raffle prize or use them as prizes in your auctions.

In general, it costs about $5.00 to produce a cookbook. Your organization can sell them for $10.00 to $15.00 a piece. To maximize the return on your cookbook you can also sell advertising space in the book to local business. If you sell enough advertising you may be able to cover the costs of printing and have a fundraiser that makes your organization a 100 percent profit.

Do a search on the internet you'll find many fundraising cookbook publishing companies who will help you create an attractive, professional-looking cookbook. Some of the companies will even feature your cookbook on their website and allow you to sell your cookbook from their website. As previously mentioned, most publishers will handle the entire publishing process online. You can view and choose, online, the cover options and other options that may be available such as tabbed sections and pockets.

Most publishers can provide you with starter recipes and pages with cooking hints to help make your cookbook more appealing. All you have to do is gather the recipes, upload them to the publishers and they will handle the rest. The publishers usually keep your cookbook records so that you can order more when you sell out of a printing.

If your nonprofit organization or charity is looking for a fundraising idea, consider publishing a community cookbook. People love to get involved and contribute their favorite family recipe and see it in print. Fundraising cookbooks make great gifts and become treasured keepsakes while preserving the recipes of your community

Customer Review: Best product for comic lovers ever

Complete run, easy to use. Love, love, love this product. Shame on you Marvel for cancelling the contract with the company that produces these. I have been collecting comics for 30 years and have a massive collection, but this product was awesome for new readers that wanted to read entire collections. Unfortunately, Marvel pulled the plug, so planned collections for Thor, Daredevil and others may never see the light of day. At least we got a few before they got greedy. Snap them up from Amazon while you can, there won't be any more made!

Customer Review: Reliving my childhood

While I've found that I'm too mature for some of the comic book silliness, this DVD has been a great way to relive my childhood. I had a small stack of comic books when I was a kid, many of them FF, that I read hundreds of times, but without ever really being able to follow a story arc because I didn't subscribe and lived in the middle of nowhere. It's been great fun to bounce around across decades of comics, finding the origins of Galactus and Dr. Doom.

The format, of course, isn't as cozy as a real comic book, but with a decent laptop, I've been able to relax on the couch with them anyway.

Customer Review: Seinfeld season 8

I was very pleased to find the tape of Seinfeld at Amazon I had tried to purchase it at a few stores and no one had it in stock. I took a chance since I was ordering it late as a present and it was wonderful to not only find the tape but it also arrived just in time to be given for a birthday present. So thank you and I will continue to use Amazon since I have really been happy.

Customer Review: Numanium

I have always been a huge Seinfeld fan and have to say the DVDs are a must. Even if you watch it eveynight like myself you still have to own them. Seasons 8 & 9 are by far my favorite. I actually think once Larry David left the episodes got better. This season is packed with some great laughs. I would have to say I love every episode but some stand out above the rest. I think the top three from this season would be; "The Millennium," "The Chicken Roaster," & "The Fatigues."

Peanuts: Easter Beagle Charlie Brown
The thirteenth installment in the evergreen Charlie Brown animated series, It's The Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown, is a delightful romp through the rites of spring. The running gag that holds this string of episodic misadventures together is Peppermint Patty's futile attempts at explaining how to make Easter eggs to Marcy. Highlights of this rather surreal Peanuts outing include Snoopy's dancing with little bunny rabbits inside a kaleidoscope, Sally heading to the mall to purchase a pair of platform shoes (this video was made in 1974), and Woodstock's lavishly equipped bachelor-pad birdhouse. As with the best of the Peanuts cartoons, this will entertain children and adults alike, and is one of the last of the series to feature a music score by Vince Guaraldi. --Kristian St. Clair

Customer Review: Comes with Bonus TV Special

This classic story is as cute as ever on DVD and it comes with a bonus special...It's Arbor Day Charlie Brown...which is also really cute and perfect to watch in the spring. Buy and enjoy!

Customer Review: An Fulfilling Easter Treat

In IT'S THE EASTER BEAGLE, CHARLIE BROWN, Sally longs for a new pair of shoes to wear on Easter Sunday, Peppermint Patty attempts to teach Marcy how to die Easter eggs, Snoopy buys Woodstock a new birdhouse, and Linus tries to convince everyone that they should ignore the apparent hustle and bustle of preparing for Easter and stop worrying because the Easter Beagle will take care of everything. Linus' story reminds Sally of the Great Pumpkin just a little too much, but she wants to believe her Sweet Baboo. Complete with a familiar, though this time subtle anti-consumerism message and an unintentional allegory about faith, IT'S THE EASTER BEAGLE, CHARLIE BROWN is a spring-time treat that families can enjoy watching together.

This remastered deluxe version of IT'S THE EASTER BEAGLE, CHARLIE BROWN also includes a second television special, a special featurette, and a few trailers. The second Peanuts episode on the disc is IT'S ARBOR DAY, CHARLIE BROWN. Sally is given a school assignment to research Arbor Day. Her quest leads her to wanting to plant trees, flowers, and a garden. Lucy, Linus, and a few others join her and start growing a bunch of plants on Charlie Brown's baseball field. Charlie Brown is shocked when the season opener against Peppermint Patty's team rolls around and he finds his field has been turned into a garden. But, the game goes on and surprisingly Charlie Brown's gets a winning run and leads the game.

The featurette on the DVD is "In Full Bloom: Peanuts at Easter" offers an inside look at the creation of IT'S THE EASTER BEAGLE, CHARLIE BROWN. The featurette explores how the special came to me, Schulz's intentions in the making of the cartoon, what people take away from watching it, etc.

A must-have for Peanuts fans as well as a good Easter video that entire families can watch together.

Unless your laptop's soundcard is not working, or your speakers are barely hearable I wouldn't recommend this. Odds are your laptop does as much as these speakers.

It is well built, looks resistant and it does a decent job. Do not expect very good quality.

Quickbooks Premier Nonprofit Edition 2008
QuickBooks: Premier Nonprofit Edition 2008 offers accounting and donation management tools tailored for nonprofits. In addition to saving you time on everyday tasks like paying bills and recording donations, Premier makes it simple to demonstrate financial accountability to your Board of Directors. Stay on top of your nonprofit's finances with nonprofit-specific reports that track program budgets and donations. With QuickBooks Premier, you'll have the tools and insights you need to make your organization a success.

Customer Review: Quickbooks needs to go further for non-profits

Yes, the non-profit version is better than the standard version. But how much better? I haven't decided. The terminology is still all wrong. Donors have to be labeled as "customers." You can't assign people to multiple categories. For example, if you have a vendor who also donates to the organization (very common in the non-profit world), you cannot list them in both categories under the same name. So you have list them in one category as "Jane Doe" and in the other category as "J. Doe" or "Jane S. Doe" or "Jane Doe 1." The process for accepting donations and applying them to a particular donor is far too involved. As far as I can tell, you have to make an invoice, then "receive payment" from them, then show that the payment has been deposited (and yes, you have to open up three different windows and put in the info three different times to accomplish this). That's way too many steps to go through for every single donation! I'm very tech savy and can intuitively figure out most programs (and I know Quickbooks, I've been using it in this business for the last 3 years). But for this version, I've ordered a help book. I hope it will help me address most of these issues (the program doesn't come with any manuals, and the in-program help section is 90% useless). I sense that this program should be able to do all the things it promises - like tracking donors and helping with thank you letters - but I haven't been able to use these options in a practicle way yet...

Customer Review: Quickbooks Premier NonProfit Edition

If you are looking for software that has good dynamic reporting for your donors this is NOT it. I was able to get the same reports out of Quicken for my donors. I have to manually change each donors name to appear on the top of their report. When you have over 100 donors and need to provide them frequent donation reports, this is not efficient. I reported this to Intuit. Maybe they'll improve this feature in the future.

How to Harness the Power of Ebooks for the Benefit of Your Website!

Ebooks can be a powerful tool when it comes to promoting and profiting from your website. To be able to benefit from ebooks, it is important to know how to use them to their full potential.

There are two big ways in which ebooks can be used to benefit you and your site:

Promotion

Profiting

Both of these are extremely important. Without promoting your site and receiving enough visitors, it is impossible to profit, which is the ultimate aim of a successful internet business.

Promotion:

Ebooks are especially good for advertising your website. They cost almost nothing to produce and can be easily distributed via an email. You can either use an ebook which you have created yourself, or you can use another author's ebook, provided you have permission. Here is how to promote your site to unknown levels using an ebook:

- Use an ebook with a broad appeal, so as to achieve a maximum range of interest from many people. However, try to keep the ebook relevant to your site's subject matter. This way, those who travel to your site through the ebook will find more that interests them on your site. This is how to turn browsers of your ebook into buyers on your site.

- Once you have chosen your ebook's subject try to write the content similarly to your site. Add a link to the site you want to promote at the beginning and end of every page in the ebook. Make sure that these links are visible, and that it is made clear to the viewer where these links go to. Within the content of the ebook, while talking about something which can be found directly at your site, a link can also be added. However, make sure not to clutter your ebook with links and ads. This looks unprofessional and gives viewers a bad impression.

- Having finished the ebook's content, check furiously for spelling mistakes or missing punctuation. These mistakes lead the viewer to believe that the author is unprofessional and even that the site may be insecure and badly run.

- Now comes a crucial part. Make sure on the very front of the ebook, or somewhere where everyone will be able to see, that you have put a statement such as this:

"You may redistribute this ebook freely so long as the content inside remains the same"

This will mean that anyone who receives your ebook will be able to pass it on, so long as they don't change it. Given the fact that ebooks are a very popular form of displaying information nowadays, people are very likely to give your ebook away, whether it be a freebie on their site or a gift to newcomers. More and more people will have a copy of your ebook, with your link which goes straight back to your site. People are bound to click on your link if they're interested.

- Now with your completed ebook, you can start distributing. Give it to all your friends and family and anyone else who you know. Tell them to distribute it everyone in their email address book. Do not be afraid to contact a site which sells or gives away ebooks and ask them if they will distribute it. The chances are that they will. Big ebook sites need new ebooks to keep going. Contact sites which have a similar subject matter as the subject of your ebook and ask them if they will distribute it. Don't forget to distribute your ebook freely on your own site, because this will gain your site popularity. If you need help distributing your ebook, my site http://www.info-ebooks.co.uk would be happy to distribute it for you.

Once you have distributed a number of copies, if you have distributed it well to many sets of people, your ebook will soon be all over the internet. People will start clicking on your links from all over the web and in addition, you have also made a small name for yourself on the web. This will increase the popularity and trust in your site.

Profiting:

Obviously through the promoting of your website using ebooks, the profits will increase. However, there are other ways in which to profit using ebooks:

- The most obvious way to make money through ebooks is by selling them. However, there are already many huge companies doing this and it is hard for little companies and websites to keep up. Nevertheless, try to offer just that little bit extra on your ebook deal compared to everyone else's. You have to try and make your deal seem special. Add a couple of bonuses and maybe a useful bit of software too.

- Profit through ebooks by offering them as a bonus with another, more expensive product you are selling on your website. You would be surprised at how a browser will choose your product over others, just because your product has an ebook free with it. If you can make this ebook relevant to the item you are coupling it with, or you could make the ebook yourself, then more people will buy from you and people will be prepared to pay more. The ebook costs you nothing either so it is a perfect give-away.

- Affiliate links can also be posted in ebooks you create yourself. Earn yourself money by placing these links in relevant places in the content of the ebook. For example if your ebook talks about music, then include a link to a popular music website which you know will give you a slice of the profits if a sale is made. If your ebook is distributed correctly, your affiliate link could be viewed by thousands of people per week. The site I recommend for affiliate marketing is http://www.clickbank.com

- Also think about putting a very limited amount of ads in your ebook. Many companies will pay you to put an ad in your ebook. However, there is a very fine line between making money through ads and losing money due to too many unprofessional ads. Try to make your ads blend into your ebook and make them relevant to the subject matter too.

Most importantly with ebooks, always be thinking of new ways in which you think you could distribute them or use them to profit. Creativity is a key part of a successful ebook marketing campaign.

5th Gear

5th Gear
Like his friend Vince Gill, Brad Paisley has achieved the often-difficult feat of reconciling being an entertainer and world-class guitarist. He's proven that on four admirable albums, and 5th Gear follows in that vein. Certainly "Ticks," an airy, radio-friendly ditty, is not the true substance here. That comes with such superior fare as the insightful "All I Wanted Was a Car" and "Online," a sly satire of people's Web facades. While his duet with Carrie Underwood ("Oh Love") is a bit cut and dried, Paisley ably handles "Letter to Me," "It Did," and "Mr. Policeman," a 21st-century outrun-the-law tune. The closing hymn, "When We All Get to Heaven," and ripping instrumental "Throttleneck" are Paisley at his best. It's admirable that he invites his venerable buddies, Little Jimmy Dickens, George Jones, Vince Gill, and Bill Anderson, along with Dolly Parton, to join in, but the obligatory "Kung Pao Buckaroos" skit is wearing a bit thin. Better to feature them musically, the way he includes Dickens, Gill, and Anderson on "Bigger Fish to Fry." In a time where lines between county and pop are blurring far too much, it's comforting to know Paisley still realizes and respects the differences. --Rich Kienzle

Customer Review: Top Gear

Just when you think he can't get better, Paisley surpasses your expectations. There is no song on this album which would not be a hit single. The power and subtlety of his guitar work and the charming corniness of his humor have only improved. It is impossible not to salute the relentless pursuit of perfection, especially when it is combined with humor and humility.

Customer Review: Wow

He continues to blow me away. Brad is an excellent guitarist. Fun lyrics. Just basically makes me happy when I hear his music.

Been TAKEN by Enough E-books? What makes Holly Mann's Any Different?

(...and How to get Holly Mann's ebook for Free)

Breakthrough Money-Making Secrets Revealed, by Holly Mann

available from www.herhonestriches.com

In this review:

- Does it work?

- Would I Tell My Mother to Buy It?

- Is it good for the Yet-To-Be-Successful Online Marketer?

- What's Lacking for This Audience?

- Is this Book For The More Experienced Marketer?

- Anything Else Wrong With This Book?

I don't know about you, but I am a true skeptic when it comes to ebooks touting "online money making secrets" because most are just a bunch of junk. I have been TAKEN by enough slick sales pitches to know that I should: proceed with caution!!

So what makes Holly Mann's ebook Breakthrough Money-Making Secrets Revealed any different?Holly Mann is a 24-year old woman who has created a nice living for herself online and in a very short amount of time. She went from $0 to $12,000 per month in just four months, and her book shares not only how she did it, but how a newbie can too. The book sells for $19.95.

What seems different about Holly is her approach: it's honest, practical, and down to earth. Unlike so many ebooks or online schemes I have purchased, Holly doesn't try to sell you a new tool on every page, or make you feel like you've "just been slimed", or tell you to "do" anything slimy. Her book speaks to both the novice and more experienced marketers, and even Roger Zimmerman of www.pickaguru.com says he learned a thing or two from Holly's book that he plans to try. In fact, Zimmerman has named this book by Holly Mann as his number one substitute for Rich Jerk, which is nice because Holly's book is half the price!

That must feel pretty good for Holly because she purchased the book Rich Jerk and realized she knew many of those techniques already, plus she had a few in her own pocket which Rich Jerk didn't mention. So she put her methods to work and decided to share them for much less than the cost of buying Rich Jerk.

Here is my honest evaluation of Breakthrough Money-Making Secrets Revealed, by Holly Mann.

First Things First: Does it Work?

Within a day of buying Holly's book, I tried just a couple of things in those first 2 chapters and in less than 30 minutes of my time, I made back the money I spent. It took about 24 hours from action to income, but it was so easy...it's kind of like I got her ebook for free.

Would I Tell My Mother to Buy It?

No. Like many people who want to "work from home" my mother has no idea of how to be an Internet marketer and wouldn't even know what an Internet forum is, let alone where to find one. This book is for someone who isn't looking for a work from home "job" and someone a little savvier than to pursue online surveys as a means of income. (not that my Mom would, but...you get the idea)

Is Holly Mann's Book For The Yet-To-Be-Successful Online Marketer?

I give this book a THUMBS UP for someone who at least somewhat familiar with working online and navigating the web. Although it would not be my "first" recommendation for a total Internet newbie, Holly does start off her book as if speaking to someone is IS new to the web. She takes just enough time to define terms like "affiliate program" and "page rank" and "backlinks" without putting the more advanced reader to sleep. She gives the reader two full chapters of tips for making money online immediately without even having a website. All of the information is basic but not boring, practical and easy to implement. Mann gives the reader plenty of direction for making money online without spending money, these are methods they can start using immediately, and for this, I give roaring applause.

What's Lacking for This Audience?

On a couple of occasions, the book will give a tool or a tip in a later chapter that may be a better option than those listed in a previous chapter. As an example, Chapter 3 talks about website design and getting a website for free or cheap, but much later in the book Holly gives reference to another (good) free template resource. This is probably just an issue of editing, but it does occur in a few places and someone who is likely to"read, implement, read, implement" may be disappointed later to find a better resource than one they have already chosen. On this note, I suggest taking the time to read through the entire book and highlight items for later reference.

The other disappointment is that "some" tools suggested are too expensive for someone just getting started. For the most part, this book will give several options free or very inexpensive resources for the user, but on a couple of items Mann is so passionate about the effectiveness of the tool she is recommending that no alternative is offered. If the reader desires the tool but cannot afford the suggested one, a little research will be needed...but probably not much.

Is this Book For The More Experienced Marketer?

Absolutely, THUMBS UP. Even someone who has been online for a while should pick up some hints and tips from Holly that they may not have known. The book definitely goes beyond the newbie in it's Internet marketing strategies, and unlike so many other books available, you will find it refreshingly free of "sharkiness" and heavy on specific guidance.

The first Internet Marketing book I ever purchased was from the Internet Marketing Center (back in the day), in PRINT for a mere $129 :O) Holly's book is a much better deal even if you've been online as long as I have.

Anything Else Wrong With this Book?

The final chapters on Drop Shipping and Ebay advertising are more like "tips" than chapters, although the pointers are great. If dropshipping is your goal, buy Holly's book for Internet marketing strategies and seek other resources for learning how to manage your dropship business. Other than that? It would be great if there were page numbers. The book is well-organized into chapters and nice table of contents, but lacks page numbers. This is uncommon in ebooks, I know, but they sure save time!!

Overall .... I say go out and get it!!! It will be well worth your tiny investment, especially if you use it and get your money right back like I did.

Hannah Montana "Best of Both Worlds" Singing Doll

Hannah Montana "Best of Both Worlds" Singing Doll
Since debuting as the Disney Channel's highest rated premiere, Hannah Montana has won over fans with a mix of playful antics, fresh looks, and chart-topping music. The story centers on young Miley Stewart (a girl-next-door type fans can relate to) who just happens to lead the secret life of pop star Hannah Montana (something fans can aspire to). This singing doll is fashioned on her pop sensation persona and includes the clothing, accessories, and even hit music from the show.

Best of Both Worlds
Hannah comes with a mic, brush, poster, and back stage pass.

The 13-inch-tall Hannah is wearing an authentic, albeit miniature, version of an outfit she actually wore on her sold out 70-city tour: black boots, shimmery leggings, a tiered mini-skirt, a print T-shirt, black leather jacket, and bracelet. Other accessories that come with the doll include a small brush to help style her long locks, a backstage pass for you to wear, a poster, and a microphone for Hannah to hold while performing. This last piece is crucial because when it is lifted to Hannah's mouth, the doll actually sings the show's theme song (and her most popular hit) "Best of Both Worlds."

If you prefer her song "The Other Side of Me" there is another Hannah doll available separately. And if you want to reenact her live show in your living room, check out the Hannah Montana In-Concert Pop Stage.

Customer Review: Hannah Montana Doll

My daughter desperately wanted this doll for Christmas. She was thrilled with it. So far it has withstood being completly undressed, redressed, undressed, hair brushed at least a thousand times and playing the recording in the doll at least ten thousand times. My daughter loves her Hannah Montana and the doll appears to be taking the playing wear and tear fairly well. Now if I could only find more outfits for her I'd be happier. Overall a well made doll.

Customer Review: Hannah Montana Singing Doll

This doll was a gift for my six year old niece. She loves that the doll sings although it is only a short clip. She also liked the outfit on the doll as well as the pretend back stage pass.

Customer Review: awesome!

this is an awesome cd even for old people like us (in our 50's). Amy Winehouse is an unusual young lady with an interesting voice and character. We love her retro music. Plus the cd came in record time from Amazon. Thanks!

Customer Review: what a dissapointment

i looked forward to receiving this c.d.

seeing ms. winehouse on t.v. made me curious as to how well she performed.

sufficient to say i was not happy with the c.d. as a whole.

she has great talent, is unusual and has a shot at super stardom. i hope she doesn't drown in her own negativity. both professionaly nor personaly.

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Before Sgt. Pepper, no one seriously thought of rock music as actual art. That all changed in 1967, though, when John, Paul, George and Ringo (with "A Little Help" from their friend, producer George Martin) created an undeniable work of art which remains, after 30-plus years, one of the most influential albums of all time. From Lennon's evocative word/sound pictures (the trippy "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds," the carnival-like "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite") and McCartney's music hall-styled "When I'm 64," to Harrison's Eastern-leaning "Within You Without You," and the avant-garde mini-suite, "A Day in the Life," Sgt. Pepper was a milestone for both '60s music and popular culture. --Billy Altman

Customer Review: Innovative and Timeless

For me, Sgt. Peppers and Pet Sounds are the two best albums of all time. And I would never put them in any particular order or compare them. For some Beatle-nuts it's really hard to warm up to Brian Wilson's glorious masterpiece. But both albums are ridiculously good... For there own separate reasons. Buy both, if you don't like Pet Sounds, then you have no heart. If you don't like Sgt. Peppers, you have no spirit. If you hate both, you have no soul.

Customer Review: The Beatles suck so much it makes me sick.

I'm glad most of these guys are dead or dying. They never deserved to live in the first place. Let's talk about vanilla music by British retards! I have come to terms with the fact that people somehow like this sh it. I just chalk it up to the fact that most of the human race is ignorant and is fully equipped with bad taste. I hate The Beatles. I hate The Beatles. I HATE THE BEATLES.

Customer Review: Not exactly "like new" condition

The book arrived in average condition at best and was clearly read and the cover was dog-eared and showed signs of typical use. The service was good and was shipped within 48 hours.

Customer Review: Excellent book for beginner tile-setters

I have been searching for the perfect book on tiling and finally I have found it. I have never done this before and have several projects in my home that I want to complete (floors, countertop, fireplace) and this is the first book that covers each one. This is a brief look into what the book holds:

    1. Tile Basics (characteristics, sizes/shapes, room prep)

    2. Tools and Matrials (prep tools, cutting tools, setting tools, basic materials)

    3. Tiling floors

    4. Tiling walls

    5. Tiling countertops

    6. Tiling tubs and showers

    7. Indoor projects

    8. Outdoor projects

    9. Repairs and maintenance

The pictures and illustrations are clear and easy to follow. I also like that the pictures are relatively up to date and modern looking. In short, this book has set me up to succeed in all of my tiling projects.

    5. Tiling countertops

    6. Tiling tubs and showers

    7. Indoor projects
