Howard the Duck
If you concentrate on the fact that Howard the Duck was a notorious box office dud (still brought up today) and considered one of the worst films of the '80s, it's entirely possible to enjoy this special effects piffle. Howard, played by a special effect puppet, lives on a planet where ducks evolved instead of apes, but one day he's sucked into a vortex and deposited on Earth. There he befriends Beverly Switzler (Lea Thompson), lead singer for the Cherry Bombs, becomes their manager, and, oh yeah, saves the Earth from the Dark Overlords. Jeffrey Jones is the villain and Tim Robbins (!) is there for comic relief. And who can resist the culmination of synthesizer pop, the Howard the Duck theme song, as realized by the Cherry Bombs? Customer Review: Apparently, there are no Buckaroo Banzai fans out there...
I enjoyed the movie. Sort of a "Buckaroo Banzai" type movie in that the main character is an all-around McGyver-ish kind of guy who can do everything. It's a fun movie, one that I enjoyed watching with my then-grade-school aged son. Plus, the theme song is very exciting and up-beat (sung by the beautiful and multi-talented Holly Robinson of 21 Jump Street fame).
Customer Review: Worst film of the eighties? I can think of much worse
Why does everyone have a major problem with Howard The Duck? After watching it, and reading some of the reviews, I have to seriously disagree with all the negative reviews on here. Sure, it's in no way a classic, and Lea Thompson has really big hair (the hairstylist should have been shot for crimping her hair!!!), but it's fun, it's slightly out there, and there is no other movie that can compare to this. Perhaps Who Framed Roger Rabbit? but only very slightly.
Maybe the reason why this is getting bad reviews, is because reviewers can't get past the idea there is actually a person in that suit. Yes it's not CGI, it's not any fancy technology (even in a film by George Lucas), there is a person in a duck suit. Really!
The plot is pretty simple, but you get the impression it's aimed more towards adults, than a nice little film aimed at the kiddies. Howard gets transported to earth, where he meets singer with the Cherry Bomb, Beverley, who can't believe she's talking to a duck. She takes him to a friend of hers, a scientist, who can't believe he's talking to a duck ... The story goes on. Then we meet Jeffrey Jones, who is responsible for bringing Howard to earth, and then he turns into a Dark Overlord (here's where I find the resemblence with Who Framed Roger Rabbit?)
The best part of this movie is definitely the songs. I started rocking out to the song at the end "Howard The Duck", which I'm now officially in love with, and need to get on my mp3 player (hint hint hint). Why can't I find it anywhere??? I need it and I needed it yesterday.
Lea Thompson is brilliant, right down to her clothing, which is seriously eighties, along with her hair. She's the perfect kooky match to Howard, and even sings!!! I was expecting to see it was dubbed, but she actually sang! The girl can sing.
It's amazing watching Howard interact with everything on Earth, and you've got a heart of stone if you don't feel for him. You do get past the idea that it's a guy in a suit, and if you don't laugh at the quiff he gets when he's in bed, you have no sense of humour.
To all the reviewers who think this film is bad - yes, you're entitled to your opinion, but did we watch the same film? Go watch a 'classic'.

I have always liked the simplicity of using contact paper to "clean up" otherwise old or messy looking spaces. I am not saying that I would use contact paper to cover furniture in the home if you are wanting a classy or "rich" look! But, as a school teacher teaching in a very old building with very old tables that are dull and mismatched and have little finish left on them to clean them properly...a little contact paper really can pull together the "look" and it is very easy to clean! I have used contact paper to cover gross looking tiles on classroom walls, to dress up my old chipped desk, dented file cabinet and even to cover containers such as margarine tubs or juice cans - there is such a variety of colors and patterns out there that you can coordinate both to come up with a solution to a drab decor! It sticks smoothly and evenly, takes a short time to complete the job, wears well over time (as long as you are careful not to purposely abuse the area or put it on something that will obviously get mistreated!)
Children appreciate a classroom that is fresh and interesting and "fun" to work in....contact paper has always come through for me in these 16 years of teaching and one more thing....you can change it out inexpensively as you wish.

I bought this for my MacBook Pro 17". It is clear so the light-up keyboard still work perfectly. The original keyboard felt a little flimsy, so this product actually give the keyboard a little more feel to it. Prevent any dust/spill from geting into the keyboard. I just hope they make another one that actually cover the wrist rest area. My wife's cover for macbook has that and it feels great on your wrist.

For many listeners, Little Voice will be their first exposure to this soulful singer/songwriter, but it's actually Sara Bareilles' second record. Her first, the self-released Careful Confessions, led to a deal with Epic. Since then, Bareilles has opened for Marc Broussard and Maroon 5. She's also become a bonafide soundtrack queen with tracks featured in female-centric films Girl Play, Loving Annabelle, and Monster-in-Law. As with her out-of-print debut, the UCLA grad wrote every song on her first major label recording (Little Voice features re-worked versions of several demo numbers). Like the portrait on the back of the CD--Bareilles in strappy black dress and lace-free high-tops--the piano-playing chanteuse combines the sweet with the scruffy. While her jazzy pop melodies are radio-ready, her relationship-oriented lyrics can be unexpectedly salty ("Bottle Up" and "Come Round Soon" wouldn't pass FCC muster). A little profanity here and there, however, doesn't indicate tough-girl attitude--Amy Winehouse can rest easy--so much as a desire to express herself freely. As Bareilles explains in "Love Song," "I'm trying to let you hear me as I am." (Not surprisingly, her degree is in communications.) Sara Bareilles has a voice of an angel, no doubt. Her songs, which consists of pop, alternative, funk, and soul genres make you want to sing along song after song. I love listening to her after a stressful day or school and work. Her voice really does soothes my "soul". There is no other better way to describe it. A must buy!

This isn't going to be a very sophisticated review; nor is it necessarily objective. I loved the CD mostly because I really enjoy her voice; I find it nice and mellow and fun to listen to in the car. I heard her first on the Napster commercial and decided I had to have her CD, pure and simple. Little known artists need all the help they can get in the form of CD sales, so any type of illegal download is out of the question. I think America has to vote with their wallets in this type of situation.
And yes, I do believe others will enjoy her music as well, although I understand this style is not for everyone. So, if you liked her sound-bite on the commercial, you won't be disappointed by buying the full version.

My WD 500Gb "Premium Edition" just died a week after the warranty expired. This hard drive has been a piece of junk since day one, all I have now is piece of garbage that makes annoying clicks when you turn it on; boy you talk about trowing $$$.$$ down the drain. I got a super deal on this around Christmas - I think it was only about $13! It was definitely worth $13. At first it made my one year old cry. I think she thought there was something wrong with Cookie. But then she got used to him and she loves him. He made my husband and I laugh like crazy the first time we tried him out, especially when he says at the end "Oh, THAT GOOD ONE!" I agree with others; he is a big battery hog. I haven't changed out the batteries yet, so he can't move around as well right now. But he does still bend over and shake a bit, and his voice is still good. So it doesn't really matter to a one-year-old! I am glad we got it, but might not be as thrilled if he had been over $20 (as he is as of this writing.)

i gave this toy to my goddaughter who's a year old - at first she was hesitant because of the tumbling action - but the laughing sound and the voice of cookie monster made her smile - and us adult swoon! Soon after the first jitters, she was already playing with it and enjoying it! Her parents and I grew up on Sesame Street and its wonderful to see that it still has a wonderful effect on the present generation.

It sticks smoothly and evenly, takes a short time to complete the job, wears well over time (as long as you are careful not to purposely abuse the area or put it on something that will obviously get mistreated!)
Children appreciate a classroom that is fresh and interesting and "fun" to work in....contact paper has always come through for me in these 16 years of teaching and one more thing....you can change it out inexpensively as you wish.

I bought this for my MacBook Pro 17". It is clear so the light-up keyboard still work perfectly. The original keyboard felt a little flimsy, so this product actually give the keyboard a little more feel to it. Prevent any dust/spill from geting into the keyboard. I just hope they make another one that actually cover the wrist rest area. My wife's cover for macbook has that and it feels great on your wrist.

Little Voice
For many listeners, Little Voice will be their first exposure to this soulful singer/songwriter, but it's actually Sara Bareilles' second record. Her first, the self-released Careful Confessions, led to a deal with Epic. Since then, Bareilles has opened for Marc Broussard and Maroon 5. She's also become a bonafide soundtrack queen with tracks featured in female-centric films Girl Play, Loving Annabelle, and Monster-in-Law. As with her out-of-print debut, the UCLA grad wrote every song on her first major label recording (Little Voice features re-worked versions of several demo numbers). Like the portrait on the back of the CD--Bareilles in strappy black dress and lace-free high-tops--the piano-playing chanteuse combines the sweet with the scruffy. While her jazzy pop melodies are radio-ready, her relationship-oriented lyrics can be unexpectedly salty ("Bottle Up" and "Come Round Soon" wouldn't pass FCC muster). A little profanity here and there, however, doesn't indicate tough-girl attitude--Amy Winehouse can rest easy--so much as a desire to express herself freely. As Bareilles explains in "Love Song," "I'm trying to let you hear me as I am." (Not surprisingly, her degree is in communications.) Sara Bareilles has a voice of an angel, no doubt. Her songs, which consists of pop, alternative, funk, and soul genres make you want to sing along song after song. I love listening to her after a stressful day or school and work. Her voice really does soothes my "soul". There is no other better way to describe it. A must buy!

This isn't going to be a very sophisticated review; nor is it necessarily objective. I loved the CD mostly because I really enjoy her voice; I find it nice and mellow and fun to listen to in the car. I heard her first on the Napster commercial and decided I had to have her CD, pure and simple. Little known artists need all the help they can get in the form of CD sales, so any type of illegal download is out of the question. I think America has to vote with their wallets in this type of situation.
And yes, I do believe others will enjoy her music as well, although I understand this style is not for everyone. So, if you liked her sound-bite on the commercial, you won't be disappointed by buying the full version.

My WD 500Gb "Premium Edition" just died a week after the warranty expired. This hard drive has been a piece of junk since day one, all I have now is piece of garbage that makes annoying clicks when you turn it on; boy you talk about trowing $$$.$$ down the drain. DO NOT waste your money on any of these external drives made by Western Digital.

The second time he is tickled, he falls over backwards, rolls from left to right, then gets back up again, saying, "That was good." The doll moves best on a hard, flat surface and struggles a little when placed on carpet. But that was the only setback discovered during the hands-on testing process. A discreet on-off switch on his foot allows you to turn the doll off, if you're in need of some quiet time. Overall, T.M.X. Cookie Monster makes a great toy for its target age range. Even adults will crack a smile as this jolly character shakes and rolls with laughter.

Customer Review: Worth it if under $20
I got a super deal on this around Christmas - I think it was only about $13! It was definitely worth $13. At first it made my one year old cry. I think she thought there was something wrong with Cookie. But then she got used to him and she loves him. He made my husband and I laugh like crazy the first time we tried him out, especially when he says at the end "Oh, THAT GOOD ONE!" I agree with others; he is a big battery hog. I haven't changed out the batteries yet, so he can't move around as well right now. But he does still bend over and shake a bit, and his voice is still good. So it doesn't really matter to a one-year-old! I am glad we got it, but might not be as thrilled if he had been over $20 (as he is as of this writing.)

i gave this toy to my goddaughter who's a year old - at first she was hesitant because of the tumbling action - but the laughing sound and the voice of cookie monster made her smile - and us adult swoon! Soon after the first jitters, she was already playing with it and enjoying it! Her parents and I grew up on Sesame Street and its wonderful to see that it still has a wonderful effect on the present generation.
