Today's books store ArticleThe Untold Secrets of Writing Best Selling Children's Books
Ever wondered how the most successful children's book writers get their ideas? The answer may surprise you.
Most children's books are based on the same exact story - good versus evil.
Ex. Harry Potter vs Voldomort. Cinderella vs her wicked stepmother. Pinnochio's conscience vs. outside influences.
Next we add a protagonist and an antagonist.
Ex. Don't we love it when Harry Potter and Malfoy get into it? Or when Hansel and Gretel turn the tables on the witch?
Finally a best selling story needs conflict and a big problem that the main character needs to overcome.
Ex. If Harry lets Lord Voldemort come back without a fight, the fate of the magic world could be at risk.
Ex. If Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire don't outsmart Count Olaf then their fortunes and their lives might be at risk.
Most inexperienced writers spend so much time thinking about the setting, the scenery and the color of their characters hair that they forget that the plot is what editors and their audience is looking for.
Hogwarts is a wonderful school. But who would care about it without Harry Potter and his friends.
The castle in Sleeping Beauty would just be another castle in the middle of nowhere without the princess and her prince.
And the three little pigs houses could have been made of snow, cotton or peanuts for all we would care without three clever little pigs and a wolf.
Kids love it when good triumphs over evil. Give them a story they can cheer over.
Also spend time really getting to know your characters. Create a history for each character, even if most of their histories will never see the inside of your book.
Your characters must seem real. Your audience must be able to relate to them and really care about what happens to them.
That in a nutshell is how you write a best selling children's book. The editing, minor scenic details and hand wringing anxiety can come after you finish the book.

Customer Review: Absolutely love it!!
I bought this baby book for our third child and loved it so much I purchased it again for our fourth child. The pages are so cute(with the alphabet theme) and each page is so informative from the maternal and paternal family history to the pregnancy info. to the birth and various milestones to the first 5 birthdays and other special occasions. I especially love the fact that is a loose-leaf book so other pages can be added for pictures and other keepsake items.
Customer Review: Very Organized
My baby is only two weeks old so I haven't used the book to much yet but it's going to be a nice way to keep track of major milestones. It's very organized and a good reminder of what to be looking for as far as developmental progress. I like the fact that it has pages to fill out up to age 5 and that you can add your own pages.

Customer Review: Review for Tot Tutors Book Rack Organizer
I had high hopes for this cute book rack for kids. But within a week one seam on the nylon fabric had split and shredded rendering 25% of the rack unusable. And, no, I didn't overload the rack. There were only 3 lightweight books in that slot. I'm not sure if it was a defect or poor quality fabric. It's not worth sending back as the shipping would amount to more than the benefit. I'll probably buy sturdier fabric and replace the nylon as the wood part of the rack seems to be ok.
Customer Review: Plastic sleeves
I had planned to purchase this item, but didn't after reading the reviews on Target's website. This item has plastic sleeves, not canvas. I will continue to look for a similar product with more longevity.

Customer Review: My son loves this book!
I have yet to find a Lamaz book that I didn't like. They are bright and fun to read. My son can't get enough of this book.
Customer Review: Our favorite version ! Full of laughs & giggles
Like I said in the title, this book by far is our favorite version of Itsy Bitsy Spider! And what the photo doesn't show is a soft black spider with big puffy eyes and a huge smile! The spider is attached to the book with a long ( but not too long) black cord and attaches to the second page via velcro.
Margaret Spengler did an awesome job illustrating this book and making all of the insects so friendly looking. And true to form it's the original version we all know and love of the Itsy, Bitsy Spider. What is unique is that on each page other than the 1st page is a lift the flap. On the " Washed the spider out page" there is a little bug holding up his hand like one does when they though they felt a drop of rain. But when you lift the flap that same insect is there but is now wearing a mask and snorkle. On the "Out came the Sun" page shows a leaf with a few droplets on it and then when you lift the flap you see a bug wearing tennis shoes and is getting ready to start eatting an ice cream cone sitting in a lawn chair! And on the " dried on up " page all you see on the flap is a leaf floating onto of the water, a small paper boat and a pair of eyes somehow that are above the water. When you lift this flap you then see a smiling snail with the leaf & paper boat. And on the last page you finally get to see the happy spider peering out from the waterspout and has made it to the top! The next 2 pages shows you how to do the fingerplay, so you can sing and do the fingerplay after reading this story.
My daughter has always giggled while being read this and still at 2 1/2 does not tire of this silly story!

Since the iPhone App Store opened, a non-negotiable part of my day is devoted to safely guiding cartoon animals around a go-kart track. And I’ve yet to encounter someone who finds PhoneSaber as funny as I do, but every new person I meet is a new opportunity to prove every last friend and family member wrong.
